Columnist: Pull out of the UN

Columnist Ezra Levant gets it. He wants the nation to get out of the United Nations, which he sees as being about as effective as a blind baseball umpire. Levant wrote today:

“Everyone knows a war is going on in south Lebanon. We don’t need “observers.” It’s on the news every night. We know what started it: Rocket attacks by Hezbollah into northern Israel, and Hezbollah stealing across the border to kidnap Israeli troops. So why were UN observers still there?

“It’s a good question, and likely one Cynthia Hess-von Kruedener, the widow of the Canadian soldier, would like to know.

“We know what Hezbollah terrorists thought of the UN outpost — they thought of it as a perfect place to hide behind during their fight with the Israelis. As a Canadian soldier in the bunker wrote in an e-mail, Israel had to shoot near them for “tactical” reasons. Hezbollah was using the UN as human shields.”

Levant reminded readers that Hezbollah bribed UN observers in 2000 into handing over a videotape showing the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers. And it is not just Lebanon. Levant wrote:
“In Africa, UN troops have engaged in theft, rape and pedophilia. And recent Reuters footage shows a UN ambulance being used as a personnel carrier for Palestinian gunmen.”
Levant went into Oil for Food as well. Levant concluded, “Pull Canada out of the UN altogether. It would save money, save Canadian lives, and probably make the world safer.”

Oh, I didn’t mention Levant is Canadian? My bad. I’m just a brain-dead newspaper columnist, after all.
