Its Not Your Mother's Burka

Designer Burkas? Time Magazine is celebrating the burka as a symbol of diversity. It seems only yesterday that the left considered the burka to be the ultimate repression of women, now it is a symbol of enlightenment. According to Time Magazine women who would have never considered wearing a burka are now embracing it and finding liberation. I guess the Taliban were actually visionaries ahead of their time. The National Organization for Women should be thrilled because men will no longer be able to look upon women as sex objects. There could be a huge market in this country for designer burkas. I can just see next Academy Awards with Angelina Jolie, or Jennifer Lopez sporting Versace berkas. Isn't diversity fabulous?

It isn't really the burka but the way they were treated. I could care less if they wore the burka voluntarily. But to my knowledge, they were forced to. That doesn't seem necessary to me.
Oh so you think woman in Afghanistan are still wearing Burkas because they choose too, or because they are still afraid of reprisals if they dont?
I'm sure lots of women wear Burkas for both those reasons. They have different dress standards than we do - our modest is their shocking.
Thanks, Ken for plugging Gospel Fiction. I don't understand the Burka thing, since most of the men wear's European style clothing. But the colors seem prettier.

No gospel fiction preached here.
I guess Janet Jackson's next "wardrobe malfuntion" will be her face "accidentally" falling out. ;~D
