What Are Jews Good For?

richard rodgers & oscar hammerstein II - oklahoma

Every once in a while I get an email asking, "what are Jews good for?"

When I reply that Jews have made important contributions to civilization, I then get asked for a list of such contributions. The idiot doing the asking does not realize that a partial list is all I can supply because if I were required to offer a full list, then even at the rate of naming a thousand Jews a day who have contributed significantly to western civilization, I still would not live long enough to finish.

I have therefore decided to embark on a series of articles called What Good Are Jews.

Here for the edification of all anti-Semites who truly are in the dark about how shabby modern life would be without Jews, is my humble, small, tiny list of Jews who have supplied most of the happy tunes we hum and whistle, gave most of the scientific achievements of the past 100 years, founded almost all the entertainment industries of modern life, made wondrous medical miracles, and advanced knowledge in every field of every science and every possible endeavor.

The first post in the series will be on the subject of the contribution of Jews to the world of music:

Music

  • Most of the songs and musicals of Hollywood and Broadway: written by Jews.
  • Of the one hundred leading virtuoso performers of the twentieth century approximately two-thirds of the violinists, half the cellists, and forty percent of the pianists: Jews [muzieklijstjes.nl].
  • Of the one hundred leading conductors of the twentieth century approximately one-fourth: Jews [muzieklijstjes.nl].
  • The major players in rock & roll: Jews [Jewish Journal].

Jews wrote, produced and successfully distributed to white radio stations many top hits for black groups.

  • The singer-songwriter behind one of the most popular Christian rock songs of all-time, "Spirit in the Sky": Jew - Norman Greenbaum [Norman Greenbaum Music].
  • The writers of the most beautiful songs of Christmas, including White Christmas: Jews [Planck's Constant].
  • The author of the most beautiful tribute to America: God Bless America: Jew. Irving Berlin gave the royalties of the song to the God Bless America Fund for redistribution to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the USA [Wiki].
  • The majority (51%) of the recipients of the Academy Award for Best Original Song: Jews (1).
  • 49% of the recipients of the Academy Award for Best Musical Scoring of a Motion Picture: Jews (2).
  • 64% of the recipients of the Tony Award for Best Musical Production: Jews (3).
  • 70% of the recipients of the Tony Award for Best Original Score of a Musical: Jews (4).
  • 50% of the membership of the Songwriters Hall of Fame: Jews.

And as I wrote above, this is the short list.
