California Bank Siege Ends Peacefully

Photo

I don't care if you live in Mongolia and smoke, as long as you don't drive and smoke on the same highway as I am on, or smoke in the same restaurant as I eat in, or smoke in the same building I am in. Notwithstanding what I just said, I not only believe you have a right to smoke wherever you want, I also believe you have a right to piss wherever you like, as long as it is not anywhere near me.

You can snot, puke, fart wherever you want, just not near me. So don't complain to me that the government has taken any rights away from you. Do whatever you like, just not near anyone else. I do not want the government to prohibit you from smoking because they want to save your health - I want them to prohibit you from smoking to save my health. Why should I care if you smoke? I don't care if you burn.

CODEPINK Honors that coward Murtha

Photo Coward Murtha

CODEPINK,
CODEPINK Thanks Murtha

CODEPINK co-founder Gael Murphy and DC coordinator Allison Yorra met with Congressman Murtha to thank him for his courageous stand on Iraq. We presented him with our pink badge of courage and pink flowers sent by CODEPINK members nationwide. Rep Murtha was very appreciative of these gestures as he has been receiving many responses to his public denouncement of the war. Murtha said that while many of the calls and emails have been supportive, those opposed have been quite vitriolic. He stated that the best support of his position and of the troops would be to ask legislators to support H.J Res 73 (Murtha's resolution). In addition to the flowers, Murtha requested that we use additional donations for the wounded at Walter Reed. DC CODEPINK along with Veterans for Peace, Military Families Speak Out, US Labor Against the War and other peace groups involved in the weekly vigil at Walter Reed recently delivered baskets of goodies to the wounded at Walter Reed. Together, with Murtha's office, we will be continuing this outpouring of kindness and support to the wounded soldiers from CODEPINK."

Plant Closings, Job Cuts Loom at Ford

Photo

"Ford Motor Co., hurt by falling sales of sport utility vehicles, is expected to close plants and cut thousands of jobs in North America as part of a restructuring program to be announced Monday. Ford has refused to release details of the plan, dubbed the 'Way Forward,' which also is expected to include product changes and cuts to Ford's salaried ranks. Ford has about 87,000 hourly workers and 35,000 salaried workers in North America. (Forbes)

In both cases that means Ford gets equal work out of both groups. I suspect the union hourly guys work about 40% as hard as the salaried workers, overall. And Union guys, please no flames, it's a well known fact that many of you have no-work deals from previous work contractions. I wonder how many Americans know that Ford is required to continue paying workers nearly a full salary even after it shutters a plant.
