Indian man held for stealing frozen sperm

Indian police said on Tuesday they arrested a man for stealing dozens of frozen sperm samples from a laboratory in western India.

Am I missing something? Whenever I need frozen sperm I simply put my own in the freezer; why steal the cow when you can milk yourself? I know, I mangled the original aphorism.

Another thought came to mind, perhaps the sperm is from American donors? Perhaps our sperm is more valuable than theirs; wouldn't it be a hoot if America also outsourced its sperm?

Speaking of outsourcing; one of America's greatest sports traditions has been exported to India which is causing quite a stir: American-style Cheer-leading:

Cricket cheerleaders face threats and harassment

In boots and spangled shorts, the cheerleaders for India's premier cricket league have caused a furious debate over money and morality in a country where cricket is a religion and prudence a virtue.

Brought in to heighten the appeal of the new Twenty20 matches, the gyrating young cheerleaders have angered politicians, who say they are an affront to Indian culture, and some conservative players, who wonder why they are needed.

The cheerleaders have complained that lewd comments and ogling from spectators are proving at best a tiring distraction and at worst sexual harassment. "It's been horrendous," Tabitha, a cheerleader from Uzbekistan, told the Hindustan Times. "Wherever we go we do expect people to pass lewd, snide remarks but I'm shocked by the nature and magnitude of the comments people pass here."

Photos of dancing cheerleaders have made the front pages of Indian newspapers. Charu Sharma, chief executive of Bangalore Royal Challengers, defended importing American-style razzmatazz. "Let us not play this high-handed moral belief game. It is only small maverick groups that are making a noise," Sharma told Reuters.

Outsourcing in Reverse: Cheerleaders in India

In this case the doorstep was a city best known as the world's center of outsourcing. Bangalore is India's Silicon Valley, the hub of the country's $17 billion outsourcing industry, filled with call centers that employ legions of young Indians who often spend their nights talking to Westerners on the phone.

But the entertainment for the IPL, as the league is known here, was imported in both style and substance — from the concert stage at one end of the field to the luxury boxes filled with Bollywood stars, from the crowd doing to the wave to the beer cups lining the aisles of the stands. And most notably, the group of 11 scantily clad women in yellow boy shorts, rhinestone-studded bikini tops and white go-go boots who waved their pompoms and gyrated their hips for the Bangalore Royal Challengers, a team named after a whiskey.

Around the corner, 18-year-old Anargha Krishnatas walks with her two friends, dressed in a tight tanktop and black jeans. "We'd like to join!" she exclaims when asked about the Indian cheerleading squad. She grew up, she says, watching American music videos. "Whenever we see those American channels, we see those girls dancing — oh we want to do that."

Liberals say that the world hates us, but in truth, the whole world would love to be American. I realize that in many instances that wish is coupled with a desire to maintain their own national traditions as well. But in the end, the rest of the world is destined to be exactly like America because the very thing that makes us great and admired and produces our wealth, creativity, style and cultural energy is Capitalism. Westernization, especially American Westernization, demands that one also adopt in its entirety that which makes us great. You cannot be truly like us, unless you become like us.

If you have seen the film American Gangster you may recall the scene where Denzel Washington's character, Frank Lucas, asks his nephew what he wants in life. The nephew, seeing that Frank has made millions in drug dealing and is now reaping the benefits of all the years of working hard, has a multi-million dollar home, beautiful trophy wife, etc., says to his uncle, "I want what you have."

Yes, he wants the result without any of the effort. Sure, the world wants what America has, but you can't just have it without the effort. They want our clothes, our style of living, our entertainment, our joie de vivre. The way to get it is to do the hard work of making your culture American, your economic system American, your political system American.

In the end, the world will speak American, act American, be American. Those that try to be bizarro-American, that is, the opposite of our culture, as Hugo Chavez is doing, and as Castro has done, are doomed to failed societies. Castro's Cuba, without the junkie-fixes of cash from the Soviets all those years would have collapsed many years ago. Venezuela, even with all the oil revenues, will also collapse and is already showing signs of strain. Certainly the Saudi princes would have been drawn and quartered by their subjects long ago if not for the power from oil revenues.

Every non-Capitalistic country of the last century only survived by enslaving its population. Of course, idiots like the Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr may damn America and blast our Capitalistic society but in the end, after 36 years of being exploited by whitey, the rev will retire to a million dollar home in an exclusive, white, gated community. Oh, the humanity! to be so exploited by our greedy, white, racist, Capitalistic system.
