Top Court Slaps New Hampshires Hand

Child abuse is the blanket term for four types of child mistreatment: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and neglect

The Supreme Court sidestepped a major ruling on abortion Wednesday and instead gave New Hampshire a chance to rephrase its parental notification law.

Supreme Court dodges major abortion ruling

Justices, in a rare unanimous abortion ruling, agreed that the New Hampshire law could make it too hard for some ill minors to get an abortion, but at the same time they were hesitant about stepping in to fix the 2003 statute. They told a lower court to reconsider whether the entire law is unconstitutional."

Let's be clear here: the only purpose for parental notification is to keep young girls from getting abortions at all. How would the law protect a young girl that was impregnated by her father? Should not this be kept from HIM? Suppose he decides to kill her rather than have people find out he did his own daughter. Is this law made so that a young woman can get advice from parents she trusts? If she indeed had parents she could trust to give her advice that was in her best interest she wouldn't need a law to tell her to notify them.

Most telling of how much New Hampshire despises its own young citizens is that there is no provision for medical emergencies; the law would have required notice to a parent, followed by a 48-hour waiting period, before a doctor could perform an abortion on a girl under the age of 18 regardless of her medical condition.

Is there anything more blatantly anti-life than these anti-abortion advocates who would sacrifice the life of a 16 year old to save something not yet viable?

  • In 2000, there were 14 abortion providers in New Hampshire. This represents a 13% decrease from 1996, when there were 16 abortion providers.
  • In 2000, 87% of U.S. counties had no abortion provider. ⅓ of American women lived in these counties, which meant they would have to travel outside their county to obtain an abortion. Of women obtaining abortions in 2000, 25% traveled at least 50 miles, and 8% traveled more than 100 miles.
  • In 2000, 50% of New Hampshire counties had no abortion provider. 26% of New Hampshire women lived in these counties. In the Northeast census region, where New Hampshire is located, 14% of women having abortions traveled at least 50 miles, and 4% traveled more than 100 miles.

More Abortion Stats

Two million children are seriously abused each year. Certainly, the last thing we need is another horrible, intrusive, anti-abortion, anti-living piece of crap legislation that puts them in confrontation with their parents and puts their lives at risk. Let's be a civilized nation.

Disclaimer: I am opposed to abortion used as contraception; however despite my moral feelings this is an issue between a doctor and a woman; not the State's, not yours or mine.
