Zidane explained his side of the story today, and actually shows some signs of regret. Zidane said, "It was an inexcusable gesture and to them, and the people in education whose job it is to show children what they should and shouldn’t do, I want to apologize”. Nice to see he was thinking of the children. FIFA might have the children in mind if they strip Zidane of his Golden Ball (don’t snicker).

Anil Dash - Zidane World Cup Headbutt Animation Festival, Excerpt:

Zinedine Zidane's savage headbutt of Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final has touched on many things: Race, family, country, terrorism, sportsmanship. But more than anything else, it's united the entire Internet around the most important thing. Wacky animations!

Zidane's head-butt inspires summer song: PARIS (Reuters) - France has a case of summer blues over its World Cup soccer defeat but captain Zinedine Zidane's head-butt on Italy defender Marco Materazzi in Sunday's final is already the subject of a song that aims to be a holiday hit.

"Coup de Boule", the French translation for head-butt, was written after France's defeat by the three associates of Plage Records, www.laplagerecords.com, a small label specialising in advertising music.

The poster of this video says, "The last 5 min of the match between France and England, Zidane changes the score. Its one of the greatest matches in football's history....." It's from Al-Jazeera TV and the Arabic sportscaster is beside himself:

There are some alternative explanations for the now-infamous head butt. You'll have to check them out yourselves. I personally like the one where Lee Harvey Oscat shoots Matterrazzi (sp?) from the school book repository. [Read More]
