Israel has warned Lebanese civilians to get the hell out yet these civilians persist in staying in harm's way. How stupid can these Lebanese be?
Listen, I know we have our idiots as well - we have hillbillies here in the United States who when told to get out in advance of some impending disaster persist in remaining where they are because "no revenoors is getting us to leave our stills unprotected."
There should be no hillbillies in South Lebanon so why, despite leaflets and warnings from the Israelis that bombs are going to be dropped, do they persist in remaining there?
Perhaps last Wednesday's comment from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour helps explain. Ms Arbour criticized the rising toll of civilian deaths on both sides, saying the shelling was invariably killing innocent civilians.
"Indiscriminate shelling of cities constitutes a foreseeable and unacceptable targeting of civilians. Similarly, the bombardment of sites with alleged military significance, but resulting invariably in the killing of innocent civilians, is unjustifiable. International humanitarian law is clear on the supreme obligation to protect civilians during hostilities. This obligation is also expressed in international criminal law, which defines war crimes and crimes against humanity.
International law demands accountability. The scale of the killings in the region, and their predictability, could engage the personal criminal responsibility of those involved, particularly those in a position of command and control."
At first you would think she is excluding Israel because of the fact that despite over a thousand bombings, less than 300 civilians have been killed. That number would have been much smaller if Hezbollah did not store weapons and arms in people's homes.
But this is precisely why Hezbollah keeps explosives and weapons in civilian locations [even adding additions to homes for that very purpose] so that any attack against them will necessarily be accompanied by civilian deaths. This is no different than strapping women and children onto tanks and then complaining that Israel is killing innocent civilians. Give me a break.
If you store weapons for Hezbollah and you hang around waiting to be bombed, you are not an innocent civilian. If you hang around for the express purpose of being a martyr by being a human shield, you are not an innocent civilian. If your intention is to prevent military attack against Hezbollah by publicly putting you and your children in harm's way, you are not an innocent civilian.
Certainly there are war crimes being committed, but not by Israel.
More stupidity from around the world:
Indigo Red, Dots, How they are connected is anyone's guess
The European Union’s High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, after meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, said he believes it is "unnecessary for Hizballah to be on the EU’s list of terror organizations, but that the EU strongly disapproves of Hizballah’s actions."
Whoa! Where did that come from? I bet no one was expecting that!
A tip of the turban to Colbert Report for Canadian-Islamic School Suspends Teachers for Praising Violence Against Jews, Excerpt:
Two teachers at the Abraar Islamic school in Ottawa were suspended yesterday pending an investigation into the encouragement or incitement of hatred against Jews expressed in a young student's violence-laden writing project.
The cover page of the boy's story is illustrated with a burning Star of David beside a machine-gun and a Palestinian flag atop the Dome of the Rock, an ancient Muslim shrine in Jerusalem. The text next to the shrine reads: 'With the call of God is the Greatest, the flag of Zionism will fall and will be destroyed.'
…The Abraar school, established in 2000, teaches students full time from junior kindergarten up to Grade 8. About 260 students are enrolled at the school, which is located on Grenon Avenue, near Bayshore. The school web page says it is designed to provide "a proper Islamic environment for growing and learning" and to help preserve Islamic culture in Ottawa…
pirate's cove - Some Whiny Americans In Lebanon, Excerpt:
[According to] The State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs:"... The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to carefully weigh the necessity of their travel to Lebanon..."
Lebanon is not the wisest of places to travel to... Yet, what we ended up with were whiny people complaining about being stuck in Lebanon during war. The fact that no US air carrier can land in Beiruit was obviously lost on all the media morons complaining about it taking the US a long time to get people out. You would think they would understand the speed that watercraft move at, considering how they follow liberals like Ted "Swimmer" Kennedy and John Kerry. But, alas, no.
woman honor thyself - U.N. of HaterS ResolutionS, Excerpt:
An Israeli commander at the Lebanese border recalls peering through binoculars one afternoon to see U.N. peacekeepers sipping tea with Hi-zbollah guerrillas…. Israeli suspicion of UN clouds Lebanon force plan continues..
Israel has long had a stormy relationship with the United Nations, which many Israelis see as tilted against them.
In 2003 alone, the General Assembly issued 18 resolutions condemning Israel for rights violations, compared to four resolutions for other countries.
Relations between Israel and the United Nations plummeted after information emerged that U.N. peacekeepers on the Lebanon border suppressed video tapes of three soldiers being abducted by Hi-zbollah guerrillas in 2000.
UNIFIL denied the charge, but the U.N. later admitted unintentionally concealing evidence from Israel.
Atlas Shrugs - The Innocent Civilian Meme, Excerpt: I am not buying into the innocent civilians meme. If by ignorance, complicity, neglect or helplessness the Lebanese wouldn't throw Hezbollah out and establish a strong government, then they must pay the price for the sins of Hizbollah. And if people put up with dictatorships, theocracies, totalitarian regimes - as they did in Nazi Germany -- they deserve what Hezbollah deserves. Our only concern should be who started the war. Hezbollah/Hamas initiated the use of force and so stepped outside the principle of rights.
