The Good Thing about the Obama Campaign
By Bernie on 01 Jun 2008
Before Barack Obama started his campaign many Americans assumed that blacks had negative feelings toward white society because of past racist policies and some little bit of race-baiting by demagogues like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Thanks to Obama white Americans have learned that hatred toward whites has nothing to do with past grievances, but with current sermons like those coming from black pulpits. There are some blacks that feel that these sermons were taken out of context and that focusing on them has diminished our view of all the good works that Trinity Church has done for the community in the past few decades.
I am sure that the Holocaust has also taken away from Adolph Hitler all the good works he did in rebuilding a war-devastated Germany, so please spare me the violin-playing about all the good that black churches do for their communities. Producing well-fed, healthy young blacks who despise America and hate whites is not something to be proud of. Trinity Church would do better for their flock if they cut back on soup kitchens and health clinics and instead fostered a love for this country and a respect for education and hard work. In this way, young blacks would more likely succeed than what we have today: blacks with attitude.
Father Michael Pfleger says that whites cannot disavow responsibility for the sins (against blacks) of their fathers unless they are also willing to relieve themselves of the benefits of their fathers' actions. See Youtube video. Hey, I'm up with that - as long as blacks are also willing to give up the benefits they received from living in white America. The average poor black American lives better than 80% of the rest of the world.
81% of blacks do not live in poverty, by the way. And even for those few who do, poverty in America is not real poverty as in the rest of the world. The world median income is $1,700 (for 2005 - Boston World News). In the US a two parent household with 2 kids making less than $21,200 is considered poor [Wiki].
Here's how the average "poor" person in America lives (the Heritage Foundation):
- 43% of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
- 80% of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36% of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
- The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)
- Nearly 75% of poor households own a car; 31% own two or more cars.
- 97% of poor households have a color television; over 50% own two or more color televisions.
- As a group, America's poor are far from being chronically undernourished. The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms. Poor children actually consume more meat than do higher-income children and have average protein intakes 100 percent above recommended levels. Most poor children today are, in fact, supernourished and grow up to be, on average, one inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than the GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy in World War II.
Most of the poverty in the US is the fault of the poor person. For example, our government says that you are "poor" if you have 6 children and you make less than $35,600 annually [Wiki]. But if you weren't such an inconsiderate moron and kept your spawn down to 2, 3 or 4 then your income would have been enough to keep you from being classified as poor, so who is at fault here, me for not sharing my money with you or you for manufacturing more babies than you can afford?
Now bad things happen to people at times, hell I was poor for a few years myself. Ill health, bad luck, and certain circumstances may temporarily land someone in poverty and I have no problems with a temporary safety net for those folks but chronic poverty due to lack of education and bitching about racism does not get any sympathy from me.

This chart shows the median household income for
the four largest racial groups in the United States.

To say that current racist attitudes among whites in America keeps blacks from succeeding is ludicrous. The only guarantee for failure in this country is a lack of education. But leaders in the black community (including white 'rappers' like Father Pfleger, the sno-bro) maintain that racism, both institutional and individual, in this country is holding them back. Can anything worse be said to discourage young black men from attempting to get an education? If you were told that you were doomed to a life of poverty and crime no matter how hard you studied or how diligently you worked, would you sacrifice years of your life pursuing a higher education?
Young Asians are forced by their parents to not only attend college but to excel. By this simple method, Asians attain a higher median income than whites despite any "racism" they may encounter. In a similar manner, the much-despised and hated Jew has also done well in this country. Education always trumps attitude.
Stop with the "whites-discriminate-against-us-so-that's-why-we're-poor" crap. Yes, yes, you were discriminated against 50, 100, 200 years ago, get over it. My ancestors were slaves in Egypt. Every year we dedicate 7 or 8 days celebrating the deliverance of Israel from bondage and that's about it. We don't moan and groan every friggen minute every friggen day all year long about how bad we had it in Egypt. We got over it. Nobody wants to hear you whining about how badly Massa treated your great-grand-pappy.
I have no doubt that almost every black in Africa would gladly trade places with American-born blacks and would be happy as punch if only their ancestors were taken as slaves to America. Yes, black slaves had it bad, and life handed lemons to many present day blacks, but too many of them didn't even bother to try to make lemonade.
