I Wish President Barack Obama Well

I believe the young carried it for Obama. One day they'll get it back in spades. I was hoping to go to bed and wake up tomorrow with the election results but I was called a few minutes ago and told that we elected a black man as President of our country. I don't want to hear another liberal whining that blacks can't make it in America. Hopefully that will be one good thing to come out of this election.

Although I am politically opposed to Obama I voted for him for selfish reasons just as the majority of those who voted for him also voted for selfish reasons: to get a bigger piece of a pie they did not bake nor even buy the ingredients for. No matter - every candidate I have ever voted for has won and so my record remains unblemished.

I hope that President Obama like most politicians will not keep his word regarding his plan to make America into another Cuba. In that regard I wish President Barack Obama well.

But I'm not worried, I have prepared myself to make sure that I am one of the leeches getting a tax break even though I pay no taxes; that is to say, I am prepared for a welfare check, or as Obama likes to call it - a tax cut.

For the next four years I will make sure my income does not rise to a level that will require me to pay any taxes. I will make purchases from foreign companies that will guarantee that I make no profit in this country that Obama can attach. When America regains its sanity I will repatriate those profits and pay taxes on them provided they are fair. I am sure those who make millions of dollars will find ways to do likewise.

For the past few centuries America has been a country where the rich get richer and poor also get richer. Our poor live better than most Europeans, I know because I have been to every major country in Europe and I've already shown it to be so in a previous article. During the next four years Obama will find that those he wished to tax may not be as willing as Warren Buffet to have the fruits of their labor redistributed to those who are content to be poor.

I want to say that, discounting for the moment those who are poor because of illness or accident, the majority of the poor in this country are poor because they chose to be poor. That's right - they chose to be poor. I was poor once because of certain circumstances but I chose not to remain poor. I could have taken up drinking or drugs or wasting money on parties and self-gratification - but I didn't. I have been unemployed a number of times in my life and I was even bankrupt back in 1975, I know what it is like, so please don't give me any "if only you could walk in their shoes...".

Too many people accept their fate and blame it on immigrants, or on the white man, on racism, on the rich, on the devil, on bad karma - whatever. If you have a job and you can't make ends meet then you are living in an apartment too big, you are buying the wrong groceries, you drive a car instead of commuting, etc. In other words you made wrong choices.

I had a former employee who couldn't pay her medical bills and asked me for a loan. I don't give loans - instead I offered her advice on how she could change her living habits so that she wouldn't be out of money all the time. First of all if you are poor you shouldn't smoke, drink, take drugs, party, or buy expensive clothes.

I make more money than 95% of Americans yet I shop with coupons and a store discount card. I use a calculator whenever I have to decide whether to buy the 10 oz package at $1.69 or the 18 oz package at 2.89. I don't buy Tuna fish unless it's on sale. I wait for Thomas' English Muffins to be at half-price before I buy them. I don't buy name brand shirts or expensive sneakers (anything over $29 is too expensive for sneakers). I just recently had to get rid of my 1989 Honda Civic with 199,500 miles on it. In fact, the car I just bought was the first brand new car I have ever had in my life and I'm 63 years old.

I know that I could put myself in the shoes of any poor person and within a few years not be poor. I only have to do what I have been doing all along - live within my means, buy everything cheap, don't smoke, drink, or take drugs.

Now please - remember I said discounting illnesses or accidents or things beyond your control. I am referring here to the majority of poor people who smoke, drink or take drugs, refuse to work hard and blame their condition on everyone else. I know it's not a pleasant thing to say, but if you are able bodied and you live in this country and you can't find a job then move to where there are jobs for which you are qualified. Not qualified for any job? Then go to any Home Depot and see how Mexican immigrants who have no education, no skills, and can't even speak English manage to do it.

Of course my advice to those poor who like being poor is moot for the next four years because President Obama will be cutting up the great American pie making sure everyone gets a slice. This will only go on for as long as the people who make the pie are willing to keep on baking.

I've already made sure no one takes any of my pie.
