Sometimes You Just Can`t Change A Mind
When gold was percolating in the high 700-800s in January of 1980 I had over 70 people working for me whose only function was to buy gold jewelry, silver flatware, coins, medals, pocket-watches, pearls, foreign coins and all kinds of collectibles. One day this old fellow walks into my store in Bayonne, New Jersey to sell his collection of Lincoln Pennies. Kathy, one of our buyers, brought the collection to the back of the store where I told her to offer him $140.00.
A moment later I heard her speaking to the customer, "But sir, we're offering you $140.00." The man replied that he was offered $120.00 for the coins down the block. Kathy was actually trying to convince the guy that $140.00 was more than $120.00.
I had seen this before. I walked over and told Kathy I would take over. I said, "Let me take another look at your pennies and see if I can give you a better deal." I hummed and squooshed my lips together as if in deep calculation and then announced, "Looking this over very carefully, the best I can do is $115.00 - tops!"
The man broke into a joyful smile and said, "I'll take it!" so fast it seemed he was afraid I would change my mind.
After he left, Kathy looked at me with a hit-in-the-back-of-the-head grimace and asked, "What just happened here? Why did he want less money than we were offering him?"
I told her that he was brought up all his life to believe that in order to get the best deal one has to haggle for a lower price.
"But he wasn't buying, he was selling, doesn't he know the difference? Doesn't he realize he shortchanged himself?"
Actually this poor shlub had so hard-wired his head about low prices=good, high prices=bad that he couldn't make the conceptual leap that the formula only applies if one is the buyer.
Liberals are Hard-wired to be Ignorant
And so it is with Muslim apologists, Liberal idiots, self-loathing Jews and others who for years have been taught that the superior army with overwhelming strength against a small foe is the evil one. They only remember that Nazis were big army, Jews a small foe. Their wiring is so ingrained that it no longer matters whether one is the aggressor or not. Size is the only thing that matters. These are the same people who most likely supported Israel when she was a small country facing the threat of extinction from the combined armies of all the Arab countries arrayed against her.
Now that Israel is a superpower in the Middle East (the strongest army, the most robust economy, the most free democracy) she is considered evil and violent. Indeed, leftists hate Israel for the same reason they hate America. When Israel retaliates, she is called the aggressor, when her enemies pound Israeli cities with missiles without provocation, they are called the victims. Those who object to Israel defending herself cannot make the conceptual leap that a large powerful country can be the victim and the so-called small, defenseless , "weaponless" innocents can be the true aggressors.
I have provided links, sound arguments, logic, and facts. And how am I answered? With opposing links, counter-arguments, logic, and convincing facts? Not quite. A quick look at the comments to my post Hamas denies it has weapons as they launch missile reveals cement-clogged minds who can only repeat the blood-libels they learned in school, or the oft-repeated refrains of "how can anyone condone the killing of innocent women and children?" As if Israel goes out of its way to hurt non-soldiers. Yeah, that'll stop the missiles, targeting children. How stupid do you have to be to believe such nonsense.
Israel is undoubtedly the kindest, gentlest war fighter the world has ever seen. Before the ground invasion Israel made over 90,000 phone calls to families living in buildings that housed missile launchers to warn the residents to leave the premises so that they wouldn't be injured. The facts speak for themselves; Israel has killed less than one person for each building demolished. And these are not random hit-or-miss targets but guided specifically to destroy Hamas' military capability. What country have you ever heard of that calls the civilian population by phone to warn them of an impending attack? Don't bother answering.
Instead of receiving the world's approbation for her concern and care about human life, Israel instead gets condemnation. The thugs who send missiles toward schools and hospitals purposely to terrify and kill innocents without provocation, those thugs are defended as victims. And the morons who defend those thugs cannot see the truth.
