If Universal Health Care is So Good
By Bernie on 09 Nov 2009:
If Universal Health Care is such a good deal, why haven't we instituted Universal Car Care?
Here is how it would work: it was estimated in 2007 that 24% of drivers did not carry the state minimum liability limits required by law - which figure rises significantly during economic downturns. In some areas of the country, it is estimated that 1 out of every 3 drivers don't carry insurance [Wiki]. This is even worse than the percentage that do not have health insurance.
I propose that every man woman and child old enough to drive in their state be required to buy car insurance. Violators would be fined and or jailed. Those that cannot afford it would be able to apply for government handouts.
By having everyone buy car insurance, even if they do not have a car, we would guarantee that we would no longer find people without insurance when they get into an accident. The overall cost of car insurance would decrease because those without a car would be subsidizing those who do.
Some silly reader will ask why should a person who does not own a car, and therefore does not need car insurance, be forced to buy car insurance? Hey, why not? The Health Care Bill is written that way. It's only fair.
As for Health Care: just to clear up the matter for many of my readers regarding the public option in the Health Care Bill: it has nothing to do with the public or their ability to choose; it is neither public nor an option. The option part is not for individuals but rather for states. If states elect to participate in the "public option" then every single individual will have no choice but to buy insurance or be fined. Obama and his disciples are broadcasting the false notion that "public option" is somehow voluntary. The option refers to states not individuals.
Disclaimer: Sadly, there will be liberals who will see nothing wrong with forcing everyone to buy car insurance whether they own a car or not, to them I say, I am only joking.
