One Small Change in Health Care

The Fear of Public Health Care
The Fear of Public Health Care

We do not need over a thousand pages of government interference in health care. We need only make one small change.

Allow Americans to buy their health insurance from any company they like, from any state they like, and
decouple insurance from employment, that is, allow workers to carry their insurance from job to job as well as deduct the cost of that insurance on their income taxes. For example, in regard to auto insurance, if Joe Worker loses his job, he still has his car insured. He is not trapped in a job he does not like for fear of losing his car insurance. It should be the same for health care.

If my state has stupid, needless and costly requirements on local insurance companies that mandates they must offer some absurd treatment I don't want, need or can afford, I should be able to buy coverage much cheaper from an insurance company located in a state whose insurance division isn't run by morons.

Aside from spurring competition among carriers, this will make health care insurance much cheaper for millions of Americans who cannot afford it now. If more Americans can afford insurance, if Americans cannot lose coverage if they change or lose jobs, there will be fewer cases of the problem of pre-existing conditions.

Since this does not require funding by government, it will not increase seniors’ Medicare premiums, does not require tax increases or increases in entitlement spending, and will not place surcharges on medical devices and prescription drugs. Since no federal funding is involved the Abortion issue is moot.

This entire bill can be put on one page and can be understood even by Liberals.
