Only in New York
By Bernie on 02 Mar 2010
They say there are more mentally ill people walking the streets of New York than any other city in the country. I am excluding for the moment Democrats who I consider high functioning retarded. I have read that women have an even higher rate of mental health problems than men.
The following is a true story, not a joke or an attempt at humor.
Last Monday at one of those large apartment buildings uptown that often serve as offices for psychiatrists and doctors, a woman walked into the lobby and asked to see Dr. X. The doorman asked her if she had an appointment and so the woman asked him for the time. He told her, "2:30 p.m."
Then she asked him what day it was. He replied, "March First." Upon which she began to march wooden-soldier style around the lobby and came back to him and asked, "OK, I marched, now what day is today?"
I'm no psychiatrist, but I bet this woman has problems parsing speech.
A little trivia: There are more psychiatrists in New York City than in all of China. Seems Mao Tse-tung didn't believe in mental illness 1.
As for Democrats: the majority of the people in this country do not want them to pass Health Care in the form it is now. It seems Democrats have a problem understanding the word "NO." See my article Be Proud of The Party of NO.
Notes
(1):
UK Telegraph, China has 100 million people with mental illness
However, Dr Huang said China suffers from a serious lack of qualified psychiatrists, since the profession was outlawed during the Cultural Revolution. From the late 1960s, Maoist thought attributed any mental illness to an incorrect appreciation of the class struggle.
...
There are only 4,000 qualified psychiatrists and a further 15,000 doctors working in psychiatric hospitals to serve China's vast population. "There are no psychiatry, psychology or psychotherapy students in medical school. You need to qualify as a doctor first, and then subscribe to a course in mental treatment," she said.
