Driving Manuals and Following the Quran
By Bernie on 08 Jul 2010
A Muslim reader, let me call him Ahmed, disgusted with my uncomplimentary articles on Mohammed's faithful followers, left a comment that suggested I should read religious holy books in order to come to know what is right and wrong, and not simply look at the behavior of followers.
Muslims say their religion is one of tolerance, yet in every Muslim-majority country Christians and Jews are not allowed to build new churches or synagogues or to openly be Christian or Jew. Even in our own country, here in America, in this land of the free, on our own goddamn soil, just two weeks ago Christians were arrested for having the nerve to be Christians in areas where Muslims live 1. Well, excuse me for listening to what Muslims say.
Muslims say that Islam Gives Men and Women Equal Rights. Whaaaa? I guess I'm not supposed to know that in Saudi Arabia women are segregated from the males, that they must use separate entrances at places of business, that they are not allowed to drive cars, that they can't travel to any Saudi Arabian city unless accompanied by a designated male guardian (although a breastfed stranger will do), and that they are not even allowed to vote. They cannot get a job or go to school without the approval of their husband and god forbid if they ever have to go to court. Women are usually flogged mercilessly for getting themselves raped. Excuse me for listening to what Muslims say.
Muslims say that Islam means peace. The truth is Islam does not mean peace, it means submission, so stop the lying. Certainly there is no less peaceful religion on this planet. Well, maybe they misspeak - perhaps they mean to say, "Islam is the religion of peace." I suppose it depends on what your definition of peace is when we consider that of the known 15,800 terrorist attacks since 9/11, 99% of them were committed by Muslims. Excuse me for listening to what Muslims say.
There is a huge disconnect between what Muslims say about Islam and what Muslims actually do in the real world. A perfect example of Do as We Say, Not as We Do kind of thing.
I view the Quran as if it were a driving manual. Imagine you come into a country where all the drivers speed, go through red lights, never stop at stop signs, run their cars into other cars, never stop at crosswalks, and kill pedestrians indiscriminately. In addition, non-citizens are not allowed to drive nor even to own a car. When asked about all these things the drivers say, "It's in the Driver's manual." Indeed, they extol the manual, they glory in its beauty and fine sentences. When you point out that the manual was written 1400 years before cars were invented and shouldn't they update it, they curse you for wanting to change the unchangeable, the eternal, the uncreated work of the One True Driver's Manual Writer.
Worst of all, they arrest, flog, or kill anyone who attempts to show them a better manual.
So here's the problem, Ahmed, you ask that I judge Muslims by what they read and not by what they do. However, they do what they do because of what they read and what they are reading is primitive and barbaric and they shouldn't be trying to lead a modern life by its instructions. Any driver's manual which causes the death of thousands of innocent non-drivers is a bad manual. And those who drive their cars under its edicts are not only wrong they are evil. They may try to excuse themselves by saying they are simply being obedient to 1400 year old rules, but nonetheless, they are a threat to modern drivers.
Revise the manual, Ahmed, come - drive in the modern world.

Patterico's Pontifications, Christians Arrested at Dearborn Arab Festival
Four Christians were reportedly jailed last Friday at a Dearborn, MI, Arab festival:
“Police in the heavily Arab Detroit suburb of Dearborn say they arrested four Christian missionaries for disorderly conduct at an Arab cultural festival.Police Chief Ron Haddad says his department made the arrests Friday. The four are free on bond.”

The link above is to Hot Air where the post states the Christians were handing out literature. The BlogProf says he has corresponded with one of the arrested men who also attended last year’s Dearborn festival, and he apparently claims they weren’t even doing that...
