Some Hotels Still Don`t Do Internet Right
I love the way Disney keeps its resorts clean. I enjoy their hospitality and the value they place on their customers. I think they do a great job in promoting the Disney brand. In almost all respects they run a great business. However, they still don't get the Internet. Our suite has three bathrooms, a combination kitchen-dining room-living room, a double-bed bedroom, and a master bedroom but only one Internet access point. Not even Wi-Fi.
There are three of us that have laptops. We are not in our room all day so when we finally come back from Typhoon Lagoon or the Magic Kingdom there is only a small window of time to get on the Internet, clear our emails, do some work-related stuff all at the same time on one Internet connection. In this day and age, if the hotel does not supply Wi-Fi then at a minimum every room should have an Ethernet port.
In my home we have Ethernet ports in every single room except for the two laundry rooms. I regret not installing in those rooms because someday washers and dryers will have Ethernet connections as well.
So we always bring along a wireless router such as the TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless-N Travel Router Kit which allows us to share a single Internet connection with multiple users.
We simply connect an Ethernet cable between the hotel's access port and the router, assign a password to keep strangers out and Viola! The three of us can get on our laptops simultaneously.
This is also handy if you travel with a small party occupying different rooms. The Trendnet has a range of about 300 feet so if you are within this distance your group only needs to pay for one Internet connection. Some hotels charge up to $12.95 for 24 hours of Internet per laptop, so instead of paying for Internet access for each laptop or each room, your group can all share one $12.95 fee.
The travel router costs about $61.00, a small price to pay for the convenience it offers.
Disney doesn't charge daily Internet fees for Disney Vacation Club members so we don't save any money sharing a single Internet connection, however the travel router allows me to blog while my son and daughter-in-law get their stuff done, all in different rooms.
Disclaimer: 99% of the time I do not get any compensation for pimping somebody's product. However if you buy this item from Amazon using the links on this page then I will get about $3.60. I am promoting this product not because I need the money (I don't) but because it is a great item for my readers who travel a lot. Any money I make on this item will go to some poor person who can use the money and works for me helping to keep my blog free of dead links, see The Art of Linking.
