Obama is Just Like Franklin Delano Roosevelt
One of the enduring myths of the Great Depression is that FDR helped to end it. The truth is, FDR was an idiot who had no understanding of Capitalism and instead of ending the depression he prolonged it with a disastrous monetary contraction policy and failed socialist programs. If not for WWII, we would have been locked into a permanent depression for decades more.
Obama is another socialist genius who has zero understanding of economics. When told that raising taxes would absolutely, without doubt, reduce government revenues, he said he would do it anyway because it was the "fair" thing to do.
FDR was not only an economic imbecile, but also a naive moron in foreign affairs. Let me tell you why.
In 1942, the U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union William Christian Bullitt, Jr. warned Roosevelt against making any alliance with Stalin, predicting there would be a "flow of the Red amoeba into Europe." Roosevelt believed that by bowing, by obsequious concessions, by being a nice guy, he could gain more in negotiations than by showing strength:
Miscamble, Wilson D. (2007), From Roosevelt to Truman: Potsdam, Hiroshima, and the Cold War, Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0521862442
[pg 52] I just have a hunch that Stalin is not that kind of a man. ... I think that if I give him everything I possibly can and ask for nothing from him in return, noblesse oblige, he won't try to annex anything and will work with me for a world of democracy and peace.
—Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1943
And so how did the multilateral conference at Yalta work out a few years later? How did the notion that it was better to speak softly than to carry a big stick pan out for the world? Not too good. Especially those who lived in the Baltic states, the People's Republic of Poland, the People's Republic of Hungary, the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, the People's Republic of Romania, the People's Republic of Albania, and East Germany.
By his naivete, by his stupidity, by his cowardice in confronting terror, by his refusal to flex American muscle, Roosevelt consigned more than a hundred million souls to slavery under puppet communist governments for the next fifty years until they were liberated by the downfall of the Soviet Union, which incidentally was brought about by the actions of a President who was not afraid to confront Communism.
As to the present fainthearted occupant of the White House, he too wants to be a nice guy, to appease Islamic terror, to bow before the less powerful, to act only if we can obtain multilateral consensus.
Obama sees our dominance in the world declining. So who then will handle the following problems:
- China has been dramatically increasing its defense budget every year. Why, is it expecting to go to war? And why did China decide this year to allow women in combat roles?
- One African country after another is falling into Islamic tyranny. There are now 2.5 times as many Muslims in Africa (498.5 million) as in the Middle East (185 million).
- Iran is ignoring our kind requests to stop its nuclear program.
- Hugo Chávez’s is using oil revenues to support terrorist states and groups, including Iran, Hezbollah, Colombian “narcoterrorists,” Cuba, and Syria.
- Peace in the Middle East seems to be less and less likely every year, as the US sends more and more money to Hamas and other terror groups.
- The Russians are beginning to re-assert their military power.
It will be interesting to see how appeasement, cooperation, and cowardice solve these problems.
Yeah, economic idiots and naive morons, both of them.
