Gridlock good for Turkeys and Canada
By Bernie on 25 Nov 2010
President Obama pardoned two turkeys this Thanksgiving and spared their lives. Now if only he would show similar sympathy for the suffering of millions of American small businessmen.
If you are an overtaxed, over-regulated, and over-worked self-employed poor shlub, then you can rejoice that Obama and his minions will find it difficult to pass any more legislation aimed at destroying your business.
We do have that to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Interestingly, Canada may benefit as well:
CBC News, 16 Nov 2010, U.S. Political Gridlock Could Affect Canada
... Jacobson told the audience that Canadians could also benefit from the more-robust Republican presence in Congress.
For instance, he predicted that Canadians would likely face fewer protectionist measures, such as the Buy America bill.
...
With Republicans in control of Congress, Canada's oil industry is also less likely to face sanctions for its high pollution levels, as threatened by some U.S. lawmakers.
And talk of a continental climate change treaty also appears to have been extinguished in the face of a more skeptical Congress.
In Ottawa, the Conservative government has spent years saying it would only sign on to a cap-and-trade plan if the U.S. did, too - and any chance of that happening appears to have evaporated for now.
