A Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker Passes me Ketchup
By Bernie on 07 Jan 2011
I got to Amelia's Diner in SOHO a bit late today, about 2 pm. If you've never been there, Amelia's is right near the Holland Tunnel at 110 Varick Street, across from my office. The Diner's been there since 1927 and the current owner, Nick Katehis, bought the place in 1989 and spruced it up a few years later and just last summer added outdoor seating.
Amelia's only serves breakfast and lunch, which is just as well since almost the whole area, filled with printing companies, becomes empty after 5 pm. The food is cheap and plentiful and the place is very clean. Nick runs a good kitchen.
But you didn't come here to read about Amelia's, you want to know what's up with the title to this article. OK, hold on, I'm getting to that. I was having a late breakfast when Sue, my favorite waitress, brings me my coffee and whispers to me that the four gentlemen at the table across from me are all linebackers for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So I look over and I have to tell you, that aside from the fact that all of them were huge and that the weight under that table was over half a ton, there was nothing to indicate to me that they were in fact football players. I only watch football when the Superbowl is on, and so the only thing I know is that Wayne Gretsky is probably one of the more famous quarterbacks in football history.
Breakfast at Amelia's waffles, eggs, pancakes, sausage, rye toast and coffee will set you back about ten bucks. Sue broke quite a sweat bringing them 110 dollars worth of food, which at Amelia's is enough to fill ten men. They then went back to the Trump SOHO (see my articles here and here) a block away where some of the Steelers are staying before they have to head back to Pittsburgh and Heinz Field - next week they are playing a team yet to be determined.
When I asked one of the men closest to me, he had these short dread locks, to pass the ketchup, I almost asked him if the bottle came from Heinz Field, but I resisted.
Epilogue
Football is a very competitive game. It is a particularly American style of game. So it is very refreshing to see many former Muslim football players convert to another religion: Linebacker Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, Defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, wide-receiver Qadry Ismail, wide receiver Raghib Ramadian Ismail, wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad, and offensive tackle Tunch Ilkin.
The truth of course is that one cannot be a devout Muslim and play football. Rasulullah (the Apostle of God) said "Whoever imitates a nation is among them." That is to say, enjoying or playing the games of the infidels makes one an infidel. The most damaging aspect of games is that they entertain and in so doing take one's mind away from fulfilling the Will of Allah.
But back to the Steelers and the late breakfast - I forgot to mention that the four linebackers were Black, but if you're a fan, you probably already knew that. Not being a fan, I was not thinking of asking for autographs, I was thinking how shameful it is that 25% of the Muslims in America are African-Americans, mostly Nation of Islam Muslims who hate this country despite the fact that here in America these young Black men are more successful than 95% of the rest of the world while in many parts of the Islamic world Muslims are still enslaving Blacks. It is so Bizarro the only thing close would be if Jews joined the Nazi Party completely ignoring history.
If Muslims ever become a significant majority in this country, you can kiss Monday Night Football goodbye.
And as for Blacks, well, those who think they are on the bottom of the totem pole in America will find out that in Islam Blacks are not even on the totem pole.
