The Muslim and the Haircut

The following is adapted from an Internet email making the rounds. I have heard this joke over the years in a number of different languages with punchlines mocking diverse ethnic groups and various professionals such as lawyers and politicians. In almost all cases, although the butt of the joke is stereotyped, the argument put forth presents a truth about those being ridiculed.

Here for your enjoyment is a very short story that reveals a truth about the nature of Muslims living in civilized countries. And to be fair, not all Muslims, just most of them.

The Muslim and the Haircut

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut.

After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, "I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week." The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, "I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week." The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Muslim came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, "I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week." The Muslim was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Muslims lined up waiting for a free haircut.

I have written many times that Islam is not a religion but an all-encompassing social/economic/political system that rules every facet of a Muslim's life, even haircuts. As I explained in my article 13 Rules For Playing Muslim Soccer, Mohammed ordered his followers not to imitate the unbelievers because to do so makes one an unbeliever as well.

And so it is with styles of haircut. Last year, Iran began a crackdown on men sporting 'un-Islamic' haircuts and even issued a catalog of authorized hairstyles.

Hardliners have frequently raged against youths with 'decadent Western cuts'.

But the red lines governing male grooming have never been clearly identified – until now.

Those aping the elaborate styles of some millionaire European football stars have been hauled off to police stations where their beloved locks have been unceremoniously and inexpertly shorn.

First-time offenders braving a close shave with the law get off with an unflattering short-back-and-sides.

But serial hair delinquents risk stiff fines, while barber shops catering to Western fashions have been shut.
