Dino's Fishery Closed
By Bernie on 13 Sep 2011
My wife and I first entered Dino's Seafood Restaurant and Fishmarket a few months after he opened up in 1976. We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary at the time and fell in love with the food.
My wife's parents lived in Belford, New Jersey back then, a drive of about 50 minutes from our home in Bayonne. We visited them almost every weekend and on the way back home we would stop at Dino's.
This went on for years until my wife's mother died and her father moved to Florida. Then we would only go to Dino's a few times a year until we got lazy and then only once or twice a year.
Last summer was the last time we went to Dino's.
A few days ago we went again only to see the place closed. The rumor is that Dino had tax problems with the IRS and couldn't resolve them and closed the fishery.
The image above is from Dino's website www.dinosfishery.net which is now defunct. The following text is from that website before it went dead:
In 1976, three years after moving to this country from Greece, Dino and Toula Mariolis bought a humble piece of property just north of the Hazlet Shopping Plaza which had once been home to a gas station. A lot of work, from the pulling of countless weeds to the complete reworking of the building, went into rejuvenating the property.
But the renovation paid off off soon enough and on the once abandoned property stood a vibrant new storefront, Dino's Seafood Restaurant and Fishmarket.
Customers are always happy to know that the seafood at Dino's is gauranteed to be fresh and handpicked. Dino personally travels to the Fulton Fish Market in New York City at least every other day, and often to the Belford Cooperative when the catch is in season.
Dino's offers an abundant variety of fresh fish, shell-fish, lobster, and crab - in all, whatever is available at the market.
The same fine traditions continue to this day at this family-owned-and-operated restaurant.
Well-known for its deliciously prepared meals and its warm and friendly atmosphere, Dino's Seafood Restaurant and Fishmarket has become not only a local success, but a draw for people from all around. Whether dining-in or taking-out the fresh, quality seafood at Dino's is not to be missed. As one food critic said, "If you count the number of times that we've used the word 'fresh' in [our] review, you'll understand why we are so enthusiastic about Dino's Fishery.
Nothing lasts forever. And the IRS makes sure of that.
