The Work From Home Scam

A friend of mine sent me the following email asking my opinion about a news article on someone named Kelly Richards, a work-at-home mom who makes six to eight thousand dollars a month working part-time.

Here is what the fake news article looks like (click for larger view):

fake work from home scam

I say this is a fake news article not because it is impossible for anyone to make a lot of money working from home, but because one cannot buy the secret to making a lot of money working from home. Certainly if I knew how someone could make thousands of dollars a week working from home part-time I would definitely not sell the secret for a few hundred dollars. I would keep it to myself and simply hire a lot of people and pay them a few hundred dollars a week and keep the thousands for myself.

I do not know if this Kelly person is a real person or a made-up person, but I can tell you with complete certainty that she does not make thousands a week working from home unless that money comes from scamming poor dupes who pay for the "secret" method or program.

I did not bother to investigate this person or this company, but without fear of being sued for libel I am telling my readers that this company is operating a scam.

Here is an article of mine published in 2010 explaining why no one can make a lot of money working from home if that information comes from the Internet:

How To Make $100,000 Per Day At Home

If you've been looking for jobs you can do at home, you've probably come across those that promise $200, $500,or even $1,000 EVERY single day, working just 15-30 minutes a day!

Here are some of the false promises: Typing jobs, such as taking surveys or doing data entry work; freelance writing; affiliate programs where you market the products and services of a company on your website and blog; building websites and blogs, and virtual assistant where you do clerical work at home for companies that need people to take calls, do their bookkeeping, post in forums, or other work.

Here is the harsh reality: other than selling drugs or selling your body there is no job you can do from home that will earn you even $10 for working just 15-30 minutes a day.

But let's pretend there are such jobs, let's pretend one can even make $600 per day working 8 hours a day from home. If there were such jobs then you can make $100,000 per day guaranteed and after 4 months you will never work more than an hour a day - here's how:

Take up one of these company's offers for the secret of how to make $3,000 a week within 60 days typing at home for a low one-time fee of $49.00.

At the end of two months, you should be earning $3,000 a week. At this point, put a very small ad in your local paper saying that you will pay $200 per day for typing work. Since you are making $600 a day, you can afford to hire three girls. And believe me, if you advertise a work-at-home paying that much in your hometown paper with no upfront fees, you will get a lot more than 3 people applying for the job. Keep the names of all the others who you did not hire right away.

Go back to that company and register your three workers at your one time cost of $49.00 each.

In 60 days, they will each be making you $3,000 a week for a total of $9,000 a week. At this point, after 4 months of typing, you can quit the job. Your original three employees are each making $2,000 more than their individual salaries. With the extra $6,000 weekly you can now hire another six women, paying each $1,000 a week.

In another 60 days, you will now have 9 women earning a total of $27,000 a week. Deducting $9,000 for salaries, you have $18,000 a week left over, allowing you to hire an additional 18 women, paying each $1,000 weekly.

Let me skip ahead. At the end of one year, you will have 243 women working for you typing in their homes. You will earn $739,000 a week and your expenses will be $243,000 a week netting you $99,200 a day. You will need to spend about an hour a day managing all these accounts or you can hire a woman to do the bookkeeping for you. Simply put an ad in the paper promising someone $200 an hour, I'm sure you'll get some takers.

Now the clever and alert person will ask, if I can make so much money by hiring other people, why doesn't the company offering to share the secret to making $3,000 a week simply hire the people themselves? Why would they be content with a one-time fee of $49.00 when cheap hired help can make $3,000 a week? Good question.

As to the promise I made to you about making $100,000 a day after only one year: If I could do that why would I be giving you the secret for free?

Save your money. No legitimate company will ever ask that you pay an upfront fee for a secret, or a required background check, or special training.
