Here's an email that has been making the rounds and while Moochelle Obama didn't write the exact words, and despite the fact that some events are described inaccurately, the sentiments expressed by the First Lady are 100% accurate and true (1). I have noted the corrections where appropriate:
For only the second time in my adult life, I am not ashamed of my country. I want to thank the hard working American people for paying $242 thousand dollars for my vacation in Spain [actual cost $467,585 (2) - bernie] .
My daughter Sasha, several long-time family friends, my personal staff and various guests had a wonderful time.
Honestly, you just haven't lived until you have stayed in a $2,500.00 per night private 3-story villa at a 5-Star luxury hotel.
Thank you also for the use of Air Force Two and the 70 Secret Service personnel who tagged along to be sure we were safe and cared for at all times. By the way, if you happen to be visiting the Costa del Sol, I highly recommend the Buenaventura Plaza restaurant in Marbella ; great lobster with rice and oysters! I'm ashamed to admit the lobsters we ate in Martha's Vineyard were not quite as tasty, but what can you do if you're not in Europe , you have to just grin and bear it?
Air Force Two (which costs ONLY $11,351 per hour to operate according to Government Accounting Office reports) ONLY used 47,500 gallons of jet fuel for this trip and carbon emissions were a mere 1,031 tons of CO2.
These are only rough estimates, but they are close. That's quite a carbon footprint as my good friend Al Gore would say, so we must ask the American citizens to drive smaller, more fuel efficient cars and drive less too, so we can lessen our combined carbon footprint.
I know times are hard and millions of you are struggling to put food on the table and trying to make ends meet. So I do appreciate your sacrifices and do hope you find work soon.
I was really exhausted after Barack took our family on a luxury vacation in Maine a few weeks ago. I just had to get away for a few days.
P.S. Thank you as well for the $2 BILLION dollar trip to India from which we just returned! [to be fair, this is an overly exaggerated trip cost and it was not really a vacation (3) - bernie]
P.SS. Thank you, too, for that vacation trip to Martha's Vineyard; it was fabulous.
And thanks for that second smaller jet that took our dog Bo to Martha's Vineyard so we and the children could have him with us while we were away from the White House for eleven days. After all, we couldn't take him on Air Force One because he might pee on some wires or something. [Actually it was the trip to Maine, not Massachusetts and although Bo did fly on a separate plane he did not fly alone (4) - bernie]
P.SSS. Oh, I almost forgot to say thanks also for our two-week trip to Hawaii at Christmas. That 7,000 square foot house was great! [trip cost between $1 and $4 million - bernie]
P.SSSs don't forget my ski trip to Vail this winter and now the girls and I are in Africa with my mom. All this while Barack golf’s and campaigns to keep my trips coming for the next 4 years !
Love Ya! Remember, we all have to share the pain of these economic times equally!
P.SSSS. Thanks too for the $1 million from my youngest and her 25 school pals for their 2012 Spring Break trip to Mexico. We knew it might be dangerous and that is why we sent 50 secret service agents with her and spent a bundle with the Mexicans to provide security so the kids could have some well deserved and hard earned fun. Our efforts to suppress information about this trip were for security purposes, not to prevent you from knowing about it. The problem was we sent her to a place that is a near drug war zone and wanted her to be secure – we were sure you would not mind helping out. Hope you can go there sometime. We heard it was a lot of fun for the little ones. [Actually it was only 25 Secret Service men - bernie]
Loving our share of the redistributed wealth!!! You should get some too!
The Obama Philosophy: Milk the country for as much as you can while you can.

Conservative Examiner, Michelle Obama's trip to Spain cost taxpayers $467,585
Now that the pricy bills have been reported by Judicial Watch via the Freedom of Information Act, the Spain trip is back in the news.
At the time of the trip, there was negativity because the national unemployment rate was at its peak and the economy was much like it is now – in the basement. But, in time, the story died down. Now that it is learned that the trip cost nearly half-a-million dollars, FLOTUS’ trip to Spain is back in the headlines – and the White House isn’t talking about it.
While the exact cost of Obama's 10-day trip to Asia is not known to the public, an examination of similar presidential excursions in the past support the likelihood that the $200 million-a-day figure is exaggerated.
For example, an 11-day trip by then-President Bill Clinton to Africa in 1998 involving about 1,300 people cost $5.2 million a day, according to the federal Government Accountability Office, which adjusted for inflation.
factcheck.org, Bo’s Private Plane?
Q: Did President Obama have his dog, Bo, flown to Maine in his own private jet for the family vacation?
A: No. The family and staff took two small jets because the airport couldn’t accommodate the usual presidential plane. Bo flew with several staffers.
