Electric Bills Will Soon Skyrocket
By Bernie on 22 Jun 2012
Last month I urged my readers to visit the webpage at American Commitment to help Stop Obama's War on Coal.
Sadly, the Inhofe Resolution to stop the War on Coal failed 46-53.
Here is the email I received from American Commitment:
Thank you! American Commitment activists like you lit up Capitol Hill and helped turn what could have been an obscure issue into a high-profile showdown yesterday on the floor of the United States Senate. Together we sent over 70,000 letters to the Senate urging them to VOTE YES to stop Obama's war on coal.
Unfortunately, we came up just 4 votes short, with the Inhofe Resolution to stop the War on Coal failing 46-53.
We cannot stop the fight. American Commitment is launching an aggressive effort to hold senators who betrayed their states accountable. Please support this effort by clicking here to donate right now.
Five Democrats voted Yes: Mary Landrieu (La.), Joe Manchin (W. Va.), Ben Nelson (Neb.), Mark Warner (Va.), and Jim Webb (Va.). Five Republicans voted No, including all four from New England - Kelly Ayotte (N.H.),
Scott Brown (Mass.), Susan Collins (Maine), and Olympia Snowe (Maine) - and one from, of all places, Tennessee.Too many ignored us and betrayed their states. Just a few examples:
- Lamar Alexander:3,687 letters from Tennessee constituents ignored.Electric bills in Tennesseewill jump13.5 percent for homes and businesses.
- Bob Casey, Jr.: 3,424 letters from Pennsylvania constituents ignored. He gave a green light to the EPA bureaucrat who recently said he wants coal communities in Pennsylvania to "just go away."
- Claire McCaskill:2,778 letters from Missouri constituents ignored, raising electric bills in Missouri 23 percent. This incredible hypocrite actually has the nerve to say this on her official campaign web site: "Claire hasn’t been afraid to break with members of her own party to protect Missouri’s coal-fired power plants and fight back against unnecessary EPA regulations." Yeah right.
...
Yours truly,
Phil Kerpen

As I discussed in my article Our Government Now Regulates Goat Herders, the passing of new laws has gotten out of control. We soon will outlaw every type of business operation in our country.
This lawmaking frenzy has even infected municipalities where the selling of lemonade or girl-scout cookies has been criminalized:
Daily Herald, 9 Aug 2011, Attorney: Lehi law outlaws lemonade stands, more
City leaders have criminalized Salvation Army Christmas charity drives, MS Fill the Boot campaigns and Girl Scout cookie selling within Lehi city limits, according to civil rights attorney Brian Barnard.
Legal director for the Utah Civil Rights and Liberties Foundation in Salt Lake City, Barnard sent a letter dated Aug. 6 addressed to Mayor Bert Wilson requesting "the city immediately amend the Aggressive Solicitation Ordinance so that it does not improperly infringe on constitutional rights."
"It just seems to be a knee jerk reaction and not well thought out," Barnard said of the law. "I really don't think they intended to make criminals out of the church youth groups that are waving signs for a car wash to raise money for camp."
It seems we're on a run-away train and there is little we can do to stop it until it finally crashes.
