Happy Birthday America 2012
By Bernie on 04 Jul 2012
We celebrated America's birthday today. It was so hot we could have cooked hamburgers on the pavers in our backyard. My granddaughters invited a dozen of their 6th grade school friends over to swim and party.
Later we went to the 16th street park in Bayonne to watch the fireworks.
I looked at my granddaughters' friends, aged 10 to 14 years old, and wondered whether they realized how blessed they were to be Americans and whether those blessings would continue into their later years. Will the government intrusions into our lives become more and more invasive or will the people finally say enough is enough and vote in politicians who will bring this country back to what it once was.
In the last century Jews from the old country called America "Die Goldene Medina" - the golden country. Certainly it has been a golden country for me. I regret that unless something drastic occurs to change it, they will grow up in a less golden and more tarnished land.
