After we left Universal's Hard Rock Hotel last week we came to Disney's BoardWalk Villas Resort in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

We prefer staying in a Disney Vacation Club villa (1); having a refrigerator, microwave oven, stove, washer & dryer, toaster and coffee-machine make it very convenient when traveling with 10 people. If we had to use outside laundry facilities or eat out three times a day it would cost us a fortune.

First a caveat: Disney Vacation Club membership is not a good investment for most people unless they have a few children or travel in large parties and definitely expect to stay at a Disney property at least once every two or three years.

For my family, if we didn't have a Disney timeshare (which is actually a prepaid vacation plan) the rooms we are in for 12 days would have cost us over $10,000 for the stay. Instead we paid less than $2400 in dues (plus the initial investment of about $22,000 for the timeshare ownership). I figure we save about 30 to 40 percent on our vacation because of timeshare ownership.

If any of my readers are considering buying a Disney timeshare I suggest checking out Disney Tourist Blog first.
