Obamacare is Just Like Dial-A-Llama

Before the Internet, before Google, it was almost impossible to pick up the wrong book at the library. Nowadays things are different: I am sure it's happened to all of us: we're doing research on, say, the Dalai Lama, and a simple typo (dial lama) brings us instead to a page with dial-a-llama, not what we expected to get:

Jalopnik, Dial-A-Llama: Finally, Someone Does Home Delivery

dial a llama

Rarely do you see an entrepreneur tapping into an entirely unserved business segment, something which once discovered becomes immediately a necessity. The geniuses behind Dial-A-Llama have done exactly that. Now we want a home-delivered llama.

It's a simple enough concept: You need a llama but you have no way to get one, simply call up Dial-A-Llama and they come calling in their mislabeled Volga M24 with a roof rack full of llamas for you to choose from. Such convenience! Just imagine all the uses for llama home delivery. Need your lawn trimmed and don't feel like mowing? Llama. Throwing a party for your kids and little Suzie wants something furry to ride? Llama. Going on a cross country trek and need a beast of burden? Llama.

See? How did we ever live without this?

Similarly, ObamaCare is not exactly what its supporters expected to get.

This is what happens when you pass laws so that you can find out what's in it. Well, we passed the law, and nobody likes what's in it and everyone who supported it now wants to be exempt from its deadly tentacles; The head of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union says Obama lied that union members could keep their insurance under the law (1), the Roofers union wants Obamacare repealed (2), The Teamsters' Boss says ObamaCare will ruin the health of Americans and kill the 40 hour workweek (3), More than half of the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) risk losing their healthcare plans (4), and even the IRS, those who will be entrusted to enforce the new healthcare law, now that they found out what's in it, don't want any part of it (5).

Well, it seems that what rightwing nutjobs have been saying all along is true. Who woulda thunk?

Know what I think about this turnaround from the left?

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha ---- ahhhahahahahahahahahahahahah - OH my stomach - hahahahahahahaha- ahahahaahaahahahahahahahaha - Oh God I'm gonna explode - hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Oh - wait wait - I can't breathe - hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

This is just too funny. Pass a law to hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha to find out what's in it? OHHH my my my hahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Is karma an effin' bitch or what? Ha hahahahahahaha

Whew.

The Hill, 21 May 2013, Unions break ranks on ObamaCare

Months after the president’s reelection, a variety of unions are publicly balking at how the administration plans to implement the landmark law. They warn that unless there are changes, the results could be catastrophic.

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) — a 1.3 million-member labor group that twice endorsed Obama for president — is very worried about how the reform law will affect its members’ healthcare plans.

...

In a new op-ed published in The Hill, UFCW President Joe Hansen homed in on the president’s speech at the 2009 AFL-CIO convention. Obama at the time said union members could keep their insurance under the law, but Hansen writes “that the president’s statement to labor in 2009 is simply not true for millions of workers.”

Washington Examiner, 16 Apr 2013, Roofers union calls for Obamacare’s repeal

United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers International President Kinsey M. Robinson issued the following statement today calling for a repeal or complete reform of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA):

“Our Union and its members have supported President Obama and his Administration for both of his terms in office.

But regrettably, our concerns over certain provisions in the ACA have not been addressed, or in some instances, totally ignored. In the rush to achieve its passage, many of the Act’s provisions were not fully conceived, resulting in unintended consequences that are inconsistent with the promise that those who were satisfied with their employer sponsored coverage could keep it.

These provisions jeopardize our multi-employer health plans, have the potential to cause a loss of work for our members, create an unfair bidding advantage for those contractors who do not provide health coverage to their workers, and in the worst case, may cause our members and their families to lose the benefits they currently enjoy as participants in multi-employer health plans.

For decades, our multi-employer health and welfare plans have provided the necessary medical coverage for our members and their families to protect them in times of illness and medical needs. This collaboration between labor and management has been a model of success that should be emulated rather than ignored. I refuse to remain silent, or idly watch as the ACA destroys those protections.

Fox News, 13 Jul 2013, Union Bosses: 'ObamaCare Will Destroy Health of Americans'

In an open letter, James P. Hoffa, Joseph Hansen and D. Taylor wrote: “Right now, unless you and the Obama Administration enact an equitable fix, the ACA will shatter not only our hard-earned health benefits, but destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.”

It went on to state, “We can no longer stand silent in the face of elements of the Affordable Care Act that will destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans.”

Teamsters for a Democratic Union, 18 Jul 2013, IBEW Chimes In with Obamacare Concerns

The 725,000-member IBEW released a white paper on July 11 calling for changes to how the law treats multi-employer plans (also known as Taft-Hartley plans). These plans, which are jointly administered by unions and their employers, are endangered by the ACA because it will discourage employers from participating in the plans, and place some existing union employers at a financial disadvantage. The health insurance of more than 350,000 IBEW members covered by such plans is at risk, says IBEW spokesperson Jim Spellane. - See more at: http://tdu.org/media/ibew-chimes-obamacare-concerns#sthash.oJxsdZWs.dpuf

Newsmax, IRS Workers Want Out of Obamacare

The federal employees who will be responsible for administering Obamacare for the American people don't want it for themselves.

The National Treasury Employees Union, which represents workers at the Internal Revenue Service, is asking its members to write letters to Capitol Hill saying they are "very concerned" about legislative efforts requiring IRS and Treasury employees to enroll in the Obamacare exchanges.
