My Las Vegas Trip 2014
My wife and I just returned very early this morning from a 4 day trip to Las Vegas. Every year, Caesars Entertainment gives me an all-expense-paid stay (up to 5 days, airfare, food, hotel, spa treatments, shows). This year we decided to see Shania Twain at Caesars Casino in Las Vegas. My VIP Host got me great seats, We were sitting about 4 rows from the stage, so we didn't have to use binoculars to enjoy watching her.
My wife likes her but I'm not a fan, but I do have to say she puts on quite a show and works the audience better than any entertainer I have ever seen - walking in the aisles, allowing fans to take selfies with her, asking the audience to Facebook and tweet the photos, etc.
Although most of us know that normally one is not allowed to take videos or photos during a show, her audience ignored that bit of etiquette and I could see hundreds of audience members snapping away with their smartphones up in the air. No ushers came by to stop them. I believe Shania is doing the smart business move. In the old days, when one couldn't instantly tweet a photo, there was little to profit a theater by allowing photos to be taken during a show and possibly inconvenience those in the audience without a camera. But today, every phone is a camera and photos taken during a show are instantly messaged to thousands of potential theater goers. All without the venue paying a dime in advertising.
Very smart, Shania. Very smart. As for inconvenience to the audience, I think people will put up with snapping photos because it gives them a chance as well to take photos. Broadway, are you listening?
