Present Day Slavery in Qatar
Tiny Qatar, with less than 278,000 native citizens (plus 1.5 million migrant workers), has the highest GDP per capita in the world. That high GDP is not shared among almost 95% of Qatar's workforce who, for the most part, are held as unpaid slaves. Indeed, Qatar has been ranked as one of the worst places in the world for workers.
In November 2010 Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup which resulted in a push to construct over 100 billion dollars worth of sports facilities, roads, and other and infrastructure. But instead of paying its workers, Qatari construction companies charge their slaves employees outrageous recruitment fees while withholding their wages so they cannot repay those fees. To ensure that they won't leave without settling those fees, the companies confiscate their passports.
If you are wondering how these companies are allowed to abuse their migrant workers, be informed that Qatari law encourages such abuses based on the country’s oppressive migrant worker system that enslaves workers and forces them to live in conditions of squalor. The system is called kafala which requires workers to be sponsored by employers and gives those employers dictatorial power to prevent workers from leaving the country.
Qatar isn't the only country, there are others in the world that are almost as bad for workers - want to know which ones? The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. Now what do these countries have in common? You know the answer: Islam. But, you may ask, what does Islam have to do with treating workers inhumanely? It's in the Qur'an: the followers of Islam are told that their religion is supreme. Islamic supremacy is why Muslims find nothing wrong with treating workers as worthless scum, raping infidel women, massacring non-Muslims, and even killing in the millions other Muslims who are not the same brand of Islam.
Is there a more vile, savage and barbaric religion?
