Poll Results - Shooting at Kneecaps
Last month, in my article Should Police Only Shoot At Criminals` Knee-caps?, I asked my readers to take a poll, giving them four choices regarding that question. Remarkably, about 11% of my readers responded that a policeman should always go for the kneecaps, no matter what.
I just don't understand how someone can be so stupid and so uncaring about his own safety. A policeman who goes for the kneecaps, no matter what, is a dead policeman. Dead policeman cannot maintain law and order. Who would want to live in a community without law and order?
I wish the people who designed the poll-taking software allowed for follow-up questions, such as race, age, gender and so on. I am curious as to what kind of pious fool answered the question that way.
Anyhow, here are the results:
I'm not bothered by the 6% who answered "Yes, but only if 100% sure hitting kneecap will disable thug," at least they left a chance for the policeman to survive. However, if it ever became official police policy that cops must always attempt to disable thugs by shooting at their kneecaps, it wouldn't be long before criminals would get wise and start wearing BlackHawk Hellstorm V.2 Advanced Tactical Knee Pads [I am not compensated for mentioning this product].
Then where should cops be aiming to protect themselves and the communities they serve?
