The War on Poverty to Blame for Problems in Baltimore

During the Baltimore riots we have heard that the cause of all the unrest is due to systemic racism - that White America ignores black poverty while also disproportionately incarcerating too many young black men. However, the real problem is and has been giving money to the poor. That's right, helping the poor is the reason that Baltimore has so many poor people. Watering weeds does not result in fewer weeds.

If anything, White America has been over-watering the weeds:

RedState, 1 May 2015, Let’s Not Spend Money

Baltimore ranks number one in Maryland for “residents receiving temporary cash assistance,” number one for “children receiving temporary cash assistance,” number one “in percent of population participating in food supplement program,” number eight “in adults receiving temporary disability assistance,” number 1 “in percent of children who participate in the free and reduced price meal program,” and number 3 “in penetration rate of food supplement program. That last one means “84.3 percent of eligible individuals in Baltimore City participated in the Food Supplement Program.”

After spending more than 15 trillion dollars on the poor in America, we do not have less people in poverty, as a percentage, than before the War on Poverty started.

CNS News, 25 Jun 2012, Study: More Than Half a Trillion Dollars Spent on Welfare But Poverty Levels Unaffected

The federal government is not making much headway reducing poverty despite spending hundreds of billions of dollars, according to a study by the libertarian Cato Institute.

Despite an unprecedented increase in federal anti-poverty spending, the national poverty rate has not declined, the study finds.

“[S]ince President Obama took office [in January 2009], federal welfare spending has increased by 41 percent, more than $193 billion per year,” the study says.

Federal welfare spending in fiscal year 2011 totaled $668 billion, spread out over 126 programs, while the poverty rate that remains high at 15.1 percent, roughly where it was in 1965, when President Johnson declared a federal War on Poverty.

If we help the poor any more than we are doing now, we will soon have most of the country deep in poverty and crime.

Sadly, most poor people vote democratic, unaware that they are voting in the very disease that is causing their poverty, unemployment, and crime. Detroit, Philadelphia, Newark, Milwaukee, St. Louis, etc. Pick any city in America that has too many poor blacks, too many unemployed blacks, too many young blacks in jail, and see who's running that city and has been running the city for decades: Liberals, especially black Liberals.

Don't like poverty? Don't like high unemployment? Don't like so many young black men in jail? Vote for the cure - vote conservative. And no, I'm not joking.
