Even Some Democrats Say The Senate Should Hold Off Confirming Supreme Court Justice in Final Years of Disliked President

I love it when we see that Democrats can dish it out but can't take it. The recent death of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Antonin Scalia and the fight to replace him reminds us of what New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer told us back in 2007 when George Bush had almost two more years left in his final term: The Dems should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee they don't like:

Pro Ecclesia * Pro Familia * Pro Civitate, 31 Jul 2007, Schumer to Fight Any New Bush High Court Pick

New York Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a powerful member of the Democratic leadership, said Friday the Senate should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush “except in extraordinary circumstances.”

“We should reverse the presumption of confirmation,” Schumer told the American Constitution Society convention in Washington. “The Supreme Court is dangerously out of balance. We cannot afford to see Justice Stevens replaced by another Roberts, or Justice Ginsburg by another Alito.”

I agree with Schumer: if your party controls the Senate then that party should confirm only the candidate with whom they agree. Simple. Done. Do it.
