The Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is an Idiot on iPhone Controversy

Suppose for a moment that the Apple Corporation made door locks for automobiles that were the most secure in the world and an official responsible for a police department announced that they were switching to a less secure lock because Apple refused to make the locks easy to break into.

Wouldn't we call such an official a complete idiot? Wouldn't such a moron be putting politics above privacy, security and safety?

And so we heard a few days ago that Prosecutor Bill Montgomery of the Maricopa County, Arizona’s county attorney’s office will no longer issue iPhones for official use because Apple refused to compromise the security of hundreds of millions of their customers and cave in to the FBI's misguided request to make a backdoor to their products.

Idiot Montgomery said: “Positioning their refusal to cooperate as having anything to do with privacy interests is a corporate PR stunt and ignores the 4th Amendment protections afforded by our Constitution.” [Arizona News Radio]

No you idiot - the 4th Amendment protects us from people like you - not the other way around.

If Apple complied the company would be backdooring not only the iPhone but those of us who depend on the company's promise of protecting our privacy - and the FBI won't even supply some lube to make the insertion less painful.

Disclaimer: I am not a religious Apple devotee, as I wrote in my previous article Apple Should Not Make A Backdoor For FBI, I have always disparaged Apple for being a consumer-unfriendly company. I have now changed my mind: Apple is a great company.
