In two days in Rio, Olympic history will be made when Ibtihaj Muhammad enters the arena as the first practicing Muslim to represent the U.S. in women's fencing and the first American at the Olympics to wear hijab while competing. What a disgrace.
It seems that Ibtihaj believes she is an inspiration to other young Muslim girls - that one can be a Muhajaba (women who wear the hijab) and a successful athlete at the same time. However allow me to introduce some perspective: imagine if a black athlete wore the chains of his enslavement and believed he was inspiring young blacks to be both slaves and successful athletes at the same time, all the while clueless that he was promoting the symbol of his oppression.
If Ibtihaj Muhammad is not aware of the true meaning of hijab then she is only an ignorant dupe, however if she is aware then she is an insult to the tens of thousands of women all over the world whether Muslim or infidel who are disfigured, maimed, tortured or killed annually by Muslim fanatics as punishment for failing to wear the hijab. Tell those women, dear Ibtihaj, that the hijab is a symbol of female inspiration.
Even the gladiators of old did not wear chains when they competed, they did not glorify the symbols of their oppression in the arena. They had the decency to be properly dressed for their sport.
In a recent interview Ms Muhammad complained about being singled out by security at airports - Hey, you moron, under your attire you can one more easily hide a plastic-but-lethal gun. That's why you are getting a more thorough search, not because you are Muslim but because you are improperly dressed for air travel.
As for The Difference Between German figure skater Katarina Witt and Muslim Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad: in the photo above we see what Ibtihaj looks like when she is competing in her sport. That is also how Ibtihaj looks like when she is not competing in her sport.
