Leonid Hurwicz and His Nobel of Many Colors
Just like Joseph and his coat of many colors (ignoring for the moment that it's a mistranslation from the Hebrew), Leonid Hurwicz is listed in various Nobel Prize Categories.
Because his parents were Polish, he is listed as a Polish Nobel Laureate (see my article 13 Polish Born Nobel Prize Winners).
Because Hurwicz was born in Moscow, he is listed as a Russian Nobel Laureate (see my article Russian Nobel Prize Laureates).
Because Leonid was Jewish he is listed as a Jewish Nobel Laureate (see my article Muslim Inventions - Nobel Prizes).
Because his research was done in the United States for the last 67 years of his life he is listed as an American Nobel Laureate (see the NobelPrize.org article The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2007)
Hurwicz was 90 years old when he won the 2007 Nobel Prize in Economics making him the oldest person to win the Nobel Prize.
So he was Polish, Russian, Jewish, American, and the oldest person to ever receive a Nobel Prize. Even more amazing is that Leo Hurwicz never obtained a degree in economics (but he does hold hundreds of awards and honorary degrees).
Leo was too ill to attend the Award ceremonies in December 2007 and died the next summer of renal failure in Minneapolis at the age of 90.
