13 Black Nobel Prize Laureates
When the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Barack Obama, he became the third African American to win the Nobel Peace Prize, the fourth African American to win a Nobel Prize, the eighth black person to receive the Peace Prize, the twelfth black person to receive the Nobel Prize, and the fourth President to receive the Peace Prize [Theodore Roosevelt (1905), Woodrow Wilson (1919), Jimmy Carter, Jr. (2002)].

Sadly there has only been one Black to win a Nobel Prize in the Sciences: James W. Black. However, James W. Black, if you look at the photo, is not Black. His middle name, ironically, is Whyte.
The reason that so few American Blacks excel in the sciences is the fault of Liberals, see Berkeley High: How to Achieve Racial Equality in Schools. Instead of demanding excellence and hard work from young black students, Liberals insure the perpetual poverty and ignorance of their black constituents by allowing blacks to slide by, to work less hard, to achieve less. Affirmative action, non-academic requirements for blacks, Ebonics, race-baiting, and especially blaming it all on whitey, directly contribute to the lower status in life that most young blacks find themselves in.
Past Slavery is No Obstacle to Success
Early Jews in America faced all the same obstacles as blacks, discrimination in employment, banned by social clubs, given a quota on enrollment at colleges, and not allowed to buy certain properties. As far as slavery goes, the Jews did go through slavery a number of times in Egypt, Babylonia, Rome, Greece, you name it. Slavery by itself certainly does not keep a people from progressing - see my article What Makes Jews So Successful?
To Black students I give this advice: It's time to stop blaming slavery, whitey, racists, whatever for your problems. Stop taking worthless Black History courses in college and instead invest your time in math, physics, engineering, English, and the history of white peoples. That's right, the history of white peoples. The only ones who should be taking Black History are 4.0 grade point average white students who will only experience a small hit to their chance of success by the waste of time they spend on that course.
I certainly will not hire anyone who cannot understand English or who has zero academic credentials. And unless you are a computer genius it is unlikely I will hire you if your name is Tyshawn or Faniqwa. If you are over 18 you should have corrected your parents' Afro-centric mistake.
