Saudi Prince Alwaleed on various magazines covers

I call Charles Krauthammer an idiot despite the fact that I admire his intelligence and political acumen, but he is a useful idiot for Islam. For those who may not know, Krauthammer is a Fox News contributor and a regular panelist on some of Fox’s evening news programs. So here's the problem: Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud [who coincidentally shares my birthday - March 7], the nephew of the Saudi Arabian King Abdullah, is Fox News’ Fourth Largest Investor and a supporter of Islamic terror (1).
I believe Krauthammer was told by the prince, as almost everyone else on Fox News was told, to portray Islam as good, and anything anti-Islamic as evil (2).
As proof, consider "Krauthammer's Take" on Geert Wilders in yesterday's National Review Online:
NRO - The Corner, On Geert Wilders:
What he says is extreme, radical, and wrong. He basically is arguing that Islam is the same as Islamism. Islamism is an ideology of a small minority which holds that the essence of Islam is jihad, conquest, forcing people into accepting a certain very narrow interpretation [of Islam].
But as Robert Spencer tells us, "In reality, Charles Krauthammer is ignorant, naive, and wrong." (3)
Baron Bodissey asks Krauthammer, "How dare you?"
Gates of Vienna, A Day That Will Live in Infamy for American Conservatives
These three gentlemen, ensconced on their peacock thrones in the comfortable precincts of a major cable news channel, saw fit to condemn all of the European anti-Islamization movements in one fell swoop.
Charles Krauthammer, of all people, should know better. It was jaw-dropping to hear him issue a summary judgment on European nationalists based on knowledge as shallow as the kiddie wading pool in McIntire Park.
Dr. Krauthammer, you have failed to do due diligence, and your ill-informed and ill-considered words have contributed to the Big Lie about Europe. You have aided and abetted the destructive “neo-fascist” meme which does such grave damage to courageous Europeans who dare to resist the Islamization of their countries.
Once again: How dare you?
As an immigrant Jew who lost more than 98% of his relatives to genocide in WWII and ethnic cleansing pogroms in Russia, one would expect me to be the first to condemn the anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant stance by the quickly rising far-right parties in Europe such as the Vlaams Belang of Belgium, however one would be wrong. In this instance I side with the far-right parties.
In order to save Europe and ultimately the United States, I believe European countries need to support the voluntary repatriation of its Muslim inhabitants. I use the word "inhabitants" rather than "citizens" because Muslims are not citizens of any country, rather they are Muslims first no matter where they find themselves physically located. As I wrote last month, "many Muslims born and bred in France cannot speak a word of French, do not consider themselves French but see themselves as Muslims first, then as Moroccans, Algerians, Turks, Tunisians, Senegalese, etc., second and not at all French even third. France has more than 6 millions Muslims yet 58% of them do not consider themselves French but rather as Muslims first."
Either Krauthammer is an ignorant idiot who does not understand Islam, or he's a useful idiot promoting the Wahhabi line.
In the weeks since the Murdoch-Alwaleed deal was struck, Trento says he’s detected a noticeable softening in Fox News’ coverage of Saudi Arabia. It’s also a safe bet Fox will impose a blackout on coverage of the Saudi prince — and because its viewers only get their news from Fox, talk radio and other right-wing propaganda outlets, its audience — the same folks who were outraged over Saddam’s donations to the bombers — will never know that a latter day terror funder is keeping the network afloat.
The Iconoclast - New English Review, Trashing Wilders: Is FoxNews the best PR investment ever made by Saudi Prince Alaweed bin Talal?
This is the latest evidence that makes Prince Alaweed bin Talal, the 22nd richest person in this world with wealth valued at over $16 billion in 2009 according to Forbes , one savvy investor when it comes to influencing America’s opinion-makers and ultimately the American public about his version of Islam: Wahhabism.
Jihad Watch, Krauthammer on Wilders: ignorant, naive, and wrong
But Krauthammer seems to assume that there is a sharp division between Muslims who are political and supremacist and those who are not -- for that is the essence of his saying that the "Islamists" believe that "the essence of Islam is jihad, conquest, forcing people into accepting a certain very narrow interpretation [of Islam]." Jihad -- however variously interpreted -- is a key element of the Islamic faith according to every single Islamic authority on the planet.
