Muslims Not Behind Catholic University Complaint

I have long complained that Muslims constantly demand accommodations to their religion because of their belief that Islam should have supremacy over all other religions. However the recent blogostorm about Muslim students upset with Christian symbols at a Catholic University is all wrong.

Here are two examples:

Jihad Watch, Muslim students at Catholic University of America complain that Christian symbols make them uncomfortable when they pray in empty classrooms

Crucifixes? At a Catholic university? How about that.

Of course, at the heart of this complaint is the hope of establishing a Muslim prayer space on the campus that would be subject to different standards than the rest of the university -- a little enclave of Islamic law where its ban on the display of crosses would be "respected."

Potomac Tea Party Report, Muslims offended by Christian symbols at Catholic University

The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers.

The complaint was in fact filed by a non-Muslim: a wacko professor from rival George Washington University.

Christian News, Muslim Students Not Behind Complaint Against Catholic University

George Washington professor John Banzhaf is out to help Muslims at Catholic University. His problem: so far, he hasn’t found anyone who wants his help.

Banzhaf recently filed a complaint with the D.C. Office of Human Rights against neighboring Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Because Catholic University won’t officially recognize a Muslim worship group, Banzhaf says the university violates the Human Rights Act and discriminates against Muslim students.

He also says CUA doesn’t provide a place where Muslim students can perform their daily prayers. In turn, they must use empty classrooms where there are Catholic symbols and crucifixes on the wall.

Muslim students at CUA don’t seem as bothered as Banzhaf. In a written statement, university President John Garvey said, “No Muslim student at Catholic University has registered a complaint with the University about the exercise of their religion on campus.”

Now why did so many bloggers assume the complaint came from Muslims? Well why not, it's not like Muslims haven't made ridiculous religious accommodation demands before: Muslim employee sues Disneyland over headscarf ban, Muslim Shelf Stockers Refuse to Handle Alcohol, Muslim Cabbies refuse fares suspected of carrying alcohol and just recently Muslims demanded to be exempt from the headgear ban at an Amusement Park.

Although Muslims are not the suing party in the Catholic University complaint this time, it does not mean they won't be tempted to do so in the future. When there are enough Muslims at a factory, school, or office you can bet that they will certainly be making their demands known.
