Book Tells Muslim Men How To Beat Their Wives
In my 2011 article Is wife beating really allowed in Islam?, I answered the question with a resounding "Yes!"
If you're not convinced because it's coming from me, an infidel, then perhaps you'll find it interesting that we now hear confirmation from the Toronto Sun that a bookstore has “sold out” of a controversial marriage guide that not only says it's OK to beat one's wife but on how to do it. The bookstore is not in Saudi Arabia or Yemen or Afghanistan but in a local store here in the western world, in Toronto, Canada:
Toronto Sun, Book tells Muslim men how to beat and control their wives
Eric Brazau holds his copy of A Gift for Muslim Couple in the front lobby of the Toronto Sun.
A local bookstore has “sold out” of a controversial marriage guide that advises Muslim men on how to beat their wives.
The 160-page book, published by Idara Impex in New Delhi, India, is written by Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, who’s described in the book’s foreword as a “prolific writer on almost every topic of Islamic learning.”
The store’s manager, who didn’t give his name, said the book had been sold out for some time, and the store’s owner, whom the manager identified as Shamim Ahmad, refused to comment for the story.
It wasn’t clear whether the shop has ordered more copies of the book, but it’s available at online Islamic bookstores and even through eBay.
...
In terms of physical punishment, the book advises that a husband may scold her, “beat by hand or stick,” withhold money from her or “pull (her) by the ears,” but should “refrain from beating her excessively.”
There you have it, no excessive beating, although my opinion is that once a scoundrel starts to pummel a woman it's pretty hard to hold back.
But suppose a Muslim goes too far and beats her so badly that it leaves marks? Since this book is written for Muslims in non-Muslim lands, wouldn't that get him in trouble with infidel police and courts where beating women severely is generally looked down upon? Well, there's a book for that as well - from my 2010 article Islam to Blame for Barbarism Not Culture:
A MUSLIM leader's book which includes tips on wife-beating has outraged Spanish politicians and women's rights leaders who are demanding that it be withdrawn from sale.
The Imam Mohamed Kamal Mostafa, a Koranic scholar who leads services at the mosque in Fuengirola, near Malaga on Spain's south coast, describes how to hit without leaving marks in his recent book Women in Islam, published in Barcelona and sold throughout Spain. The 120-page paperback, written in Arabic and translated into Spanish, is directed especially at Muslims living outside their country of origin.
The next time someone tells you that Islam respects women, get a copy of the book just so you can show him that he's either a deluded fool or a liar.
