In my December 2006 article Muslim Cruises and Islamic Travel I noted that when I googled for "Muslim Cruises" I could not find a genuine listing for a single cruise for Muslims.
It was this dearth of Muslim-themed amusements that led me a month later to write Laws of the Natural Universe where I offered the following pithy observation about Muslims: "Allah's Law: If it is fun, beautiful, or feels good, it is haram (forbidden)."
On 09 Mar 2011, Nadia, a visitor from Arizona State University, left this comment:
Wow, I was just googling to find other Muslim cruises and came upon this lovely, unbiased and fact based article that doesn't make any sense considering there is actually a Muslim cruise, called Salaam Cruise. Check it out and let it rock your world!
Well, it is true, Nadia, there is now one Muslim cruise in the world, although when I wrote my 2006 article there weren't any at all. I put myself on the Salaam Cruise email list so I could keep track of their progress, and so here is the update to my 2006 article:
Here is a picture taken of the ship on the last Salaam Cruise in early 2012. However, it was not booked with enough Muslims. In fact, there were so few Muslims on the ship that they had to share the boat with filthy infidels. Although there was some Halal food on the previous trip it seems there may not be Halal food on the one going out this December (1), thus devout Muslims are cautioned that they may not want to book this one.
With more than 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, there are not enough to fill even one cruise ship with the buggers. I'm not at all surprised: No drinking, no gambling, no carousing, no mingling of men and women - what's the point of the cruise?
Jews on the other hand, with a tiny fraction of the world population, have no problem filling up hundreds of cruise ships. The PGA Passover 2013 Cruise is already sold out. And while there are barely enough Muslims going on cruises to justify a Halal menu, the entire PGA Passover ship is Kosher. Not only that, but the hotel at the final destination is entirely Kosher for Passover.
As I wrote in June 2008, the most beautiful suggestion given to man in any Holy Book is the following: "So I commended pleasure, for there is nothing good for a man under the sun except to eat and to drink and to be merry, and this will stand by him in his toils throughout the days of his life which God has given him under the sun."
Jews know how to have fun.
