What Muslim Women Should Wear
In response to my article Why Naked Women are the Work of God, blogger Joern Pallensen at his website Transhumanisten offered up a chart depicting what Muslims in various countries consider an appropriate style of dress for women in public:
Taken from:
Pew Research Center, How people in Muslim countries prefer women to dress in public
Overall, most respondents say woman #4, whose hair and ears are completely covered by a white hijab, is the most appropriately dressed for public. This includes 57% in Tunisia, 52% in Egypt, 46% in Turkey and 44% in Iraq. In Iraq and Egypt, woman #3, whose hair and ears are covered by a more conservative black hijab, is the second most popular choice.
In the PEW article above a commenter left this bit of contradictory nonsense:
I AM THE WOMAN IN THE SECOND PICTURE. Because when I go out, I go out like that. Mine is a female only household. No male to rule me or to tell me what to do. I am the voluntary hijabi. I love hijab, I feel respected in that, safe in that. I don’t feel myself under constant scrutiny. Doing hijab is obligatory for every woman.
So she is a voluntary hijabi even though doing hijab is obligatory. Makes perfect sense to me. This reminds me of the following Muslim joke:
Q: What's the difference between a Russian Grandmother and a Muslim woman?
A: The Russian Grandmother wears a headscarf because she f*cken wants to.
