It is OK to Kill Innocent People
In response to my death penalty poll, Chris in Houston left this comment at the Poll Results: "I recently read a holy mans comment on an innocent being executed for a crime they didn't commit. He said, 'Would not their reward in heaven be 10 times greater?' I left a bit out, but it's close. Just a thought."
I replied: "If that is true, that executing innocent people gives them 10 times reward in Heaven, then the kind, moral thing to do is execute as many innocent people as we can."
I wonder if this so-called Holy Man, is trying to ameliorate the barbarity of the Death Penalty, by telling himself that the wrongly executed at least get extra points in Heaven. But let's follow this argument to excuse late-term abortion by saying the exact same thing about dead babies: "Would not their reward in heaven be 10 times greater?" Yeah, that should make everyone feel better about killing children just shortly before their birth.
This kind of thinking was used by Islamists in the 1998 United States embassy bombings, where in order to kill a handful of Americans, Muslims were prepared to kill hundreds of innocent fellow Muslims as collateral damage on the ground that they would immediately be considered as martyrs and be greeted in Heaven by 72 perpetual virgins.
I suppose if I were falsely accused and executed it wouldn't be so bad to be greeted by an Angel pictured above. But imagine my disappointment if there is no Heaven. I would really be pissed.
