Why Islam Cannot Create Classical Music
Fifty years ago (1965) while studying the subject of Near Eastern Religions at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, a fellow student and I got into a discussion of a verse on modesty in the Quran (1) where God orders women to cover their bosoms and other adornments from the eyes of men.
But then we came to this injunction: "And let them [the veiled women] not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment." Which is to say, it is not enough to cover one's body with hijab down to the soles, women must not stomp around to make their trinket-anklets jingle, a sound that could excite in a Muslim man's mind the vision of their hidden sexy ankles which may in turn lead to filthy, disgusting thoughts.
So Muslim women must not only hide their adornments from the eyes but also from the ears of unrelated men.
Because of this prohibition, I have no doubt that the Qu`ran forbids a woman's bosoms from twerking to the tune of Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik:
This is the major reason the faithful of Islam will never create great music.
