Credit Card Fraud and Leftist Traitors
| Permalink | |
Five years ago my son's credit cards were stolen. The reason no one prosecuted those crimes is the same reason Cindy Sheehan and other anti-war whores are not prosecuted for treason.
We had just finished building a new home and the credit cards were in a box with other personal belongings. We had cameras at the entrance to our house but not yet installed inside of key rooms; still, we had a good video of the small number of construction crew as they came in to finish odds and ends inside. No others ever entered the premises until we discovered the theft.
We filed a police report and contacted the credit card companies whereupon we were informed the cards were being used. We told all of them that we had a video with a good shot of whoever took the cards. This, plus store videos, would enable them to nail the thief or thieves. The credit card companies said they would do their investigation, but not to worry, my son would not have to pay anything. Even the fifty bucks that is the maximum liability under federal law was waived. Would they like a copy of the video? "No thanks, we can investigate without that."
Not satisfied with that response, we returned to the police with photos and asked if they could pursue the investigation. "Did you lose any money? No? Then let the credit card companies take care of it."
Here's the problem: Credit Card fraud costs the credit card companies almost nothing. They usually charge it back to the merchants who accepted the sale. The merchants, if the chargeback is high enough have to try to find the culprits on their own. Usually the amount of the sale prohibits any costly investigation. The cost to the consumer is nil, except in the form of eventually higher retail prices because the stores eat those losses temporarily and then pass the cost on to consumers. Because there are millions of such frauds each year, police will not bother to investigate any but the most egregious uses of the cards and most likely only those used in simultaneity with some violent crime.
Indeed, even Homeland Security in its webpost What To Do If Your Cards Are Lost or Stolen does not even bother suggesting that you contact any law enforcement agency!
Credit Card companies will not take any action that tempers the easy, convenient use of credit cards. They easily accept receipts with signatures from Shamu the Whale or Kris P. Kreme, prohibit the merchant from asking for more than one form of identification, and refuse to implement PIN verification [except in Europe] although it is used with some debit cards. So even if the police wanted to investigate millions and millions of fraud cases, they would not get much cooperation from the credit card companies.
Now we come to the problem of the New York Times and other traitorous lefties. Yesterday I posted What's the difference between a liberal and a terrorist? wherein I asserted that Cindy Sheehan is an enemy of this country. So a reader asked "Seriously, if you think Cindy Sheehan is a traitorous enemy of the state like Aldrich Ames you should do something about it, since our government refuses to apparently." I've heard this silly question a number of times. The straw man argument goes like this: since none of these lefty loonies, anti-war activists, or newspaper leakers have actually been brought up on charges, they must be innocent of treasonous acts. No. It only means there are too many to arrest, bring to trial, put in jail, etc.
I answered:
I think all kidnappers should be arrested, put on trial, and if convicted put in jail. Does this mean I am morally bound to go around hunting for all unresolved kidnapping cases? If a DA does not have enough evidence even though they suspect someone of kidnapping, should I then "do something about it?"I am opposed to illegal immigration (but I do want millions of legal immigrants) although I do not want our government rounding up 11 million people and deporting them. Know why? Because Hitler with the greatest, most efficient killing machine in history could not round up all the Jews, how should I expect our government to do almost twice as many? I'm not talking about killing, I'm talking about rounding up.
So my answer is twofold:
1) No authority: even though I know someone committed a crime unless the police are willing to follow it up, what am I supposed to do, form a vigilante?
2) Impracticality: if the crime is being committed by millions of people as in the credit card case, the State will only prosecute if some other violent predicate offense is involved. Certainly our jails are already over-crowded without filling them up with traitors.
I also said "I am not saying you don't have the right to be an idiot or traitor." In the NY Times case, if they did not have the right to be treasonous then they would have needed permission before printing the SWIFT story, which permission they did not need because of the June 30, 1971 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court to lift the prior restraints in the Pentagon Papers Case. Obviously, in order for a Court to decide if you printed something treasonous, you first have to have the right to print something that might be treasonous without prior permission else the whole exercise is pointless. Afterwards one can be judged on whether one's actions were right or wrong. The NY Times had the legal right to print treason without prior restraint. But they are not free of being judged afterwards for their actions.
It may be interesting to note that this country's greatest traitor, Benedict Arnold, was never prosecuted for his crime. Does that mean he was never a traitor?
So my final answer is: we unfortunately cannot shoot tens of millions of leftists and other moonbats. Isn't that a bit extreme? Only if you really believe Islam is the Religion of Peace.
So, Cindy Sheehan will go on trying to destroy this country without fear of prosecution unless she crosses some line. I have no doubt that the US would leave her alone even if we had actual videos of her lighting fuses for North Korean rockets aimed at our country. Perhaps another 9/11 or two and we as a nation will be less tolerant of such traitors. Time will tell.
Europe is in deeper trouble than we are with their local traitors.

BTW: I do not believe you are a traitor simply because you do not agree with G.W.Bush.

Rep. John Murtha, an influential Pennsylvania lawmaker and outspoken critic of the war in Iraq, said today Marines had "killed innocent civilians in cold blood" after allegedly responding to a roadside bomb ambush that killed a Marine during a patrol in Haditha, Iraq, Nov. 19. The incident is still under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Multi-National Forces Iraq.

"It's much worse than was reported in Time magazine," Murtha, a Democrat, former Marine colonel and Vietnam war veteran, told reporters on Capitol Hill. "There was no firefight. There was no [bomb] that killed those innocent people," Murtha explained, adding there were "about twice as many" Iraqis killed than Time had reported.

If a judge makes a ruling, which may overturn a legislative act, then no one should have the right to vote on overturning the judges later on--ever?! Why don't we just get rid of governors and legislators and even the voters? It takes the mind of a liberal to come up with such a twisted scheme for governing. This time the justices ruled on the law rather than their preferences. But, if it were not for activist judges in most cases, the left wouldn't have much say so in government.
Disclaimer: If you are not aware that America is in a fight for the very survivial of her culture and way of life, then you are seriously mentally impaired. You are obviously true-news-deprived and should consider reading other things than the New York Times or watching ABC News. Your stupidity and lack of concern about the world around you does not excuse you from any charges of treason, however. Despite my argument that Cindy Sheehan should be shot, it happens that I am opposed to the Death Penalty. Not because I have any sympathy with traitors, murderers or serial rapists, but because I believe it is uncivilized. On the practical end, I also believe it is counter-productive and prone to error, although most people seem to be unconcerned with those two aspects. The greatest deterrent to crime is to prevent poor people from having children where most of our violent criminals and leftists come from. On the other hand, I have no qualms about dropping bombs on Zarqawi. Self-defense needs no moral justification and refusal to defend oneself is a crime against nature.

- Coupla brief observations: 1.) "rounding up" illegals is unecessary and a stupid approach. It's the straw man every amnesty proponent first trots out andf that far too many otherwise sensible people fall victim to. The simple answer, one with has the benefit of fostering respect for the law all around and which would be the death knell of the illegal immigrant invasion: strict enforcement of tough laws with significant penalties for hiring illegals (with concommitant authority to _require_ verifiable proof of citizenship or resident alien status). Mate that with difficult-to-counterfeit "green cards", a COMPLETE denial (except in verifiable life-or-death situations) of ALL social services under like provisions (with concomitant punishments for those who offer government-funded social services to those who do not qualify), etc., and the alien invasion tide would not merely be stemmed, it would flow out. 2.) Prison is stupid, except in cases of violent offenders who have not earned the death penalty (which should be quick, brutal and public). Most non-violent offenses can be convered with significant fines, paid to those who were harmed*, NOT to government turf-builders, community service or, in the case of traitors either the death penalty or being stripped of citizenship and dropped in some hell hole third world country without a dime to their name. Maybe give them a parachute when dropped. *a fine system along the OT lines that ranged from 2X monetary harm to 7X monetary harm, depending on degree of venality and intent determined in the harmful act. Neighbor's goat wanders into your herd and ya don't return it when asked, pay 2 goats in return. ya go rustliing, pay back senven times what ya stole. And yeh, I'm for invioluntary servitude to pay restitution for theft, etc. Drunk driver kills someone=murder. Death penalty. Drunk driver plows into a parked car=on the hook for seven times the cost of replacement. Garnish wages, seize home, whatever it takes. Such penalties—if applied equally across the board, no "mercy" for crybabies—would go much farther toward instilling a sense of proper fear of the law, if not actual responsibility. Prison as it is today is a waste, in almost all senses of the term.
- There are millions of illegal aliens, there are NOT millions of employers of illegal aliens, after a few went to prison the rest might decide it was not cost effective, We don't need new laws, we need to enforce the ones we have.
- Bernie, This is more than just good stuff. It's important stuff. Things that need to be addressed. As always, a really good read...
- "We are in America. One can certainly legally be a Cindy Sheehan." See, I thought that was the real reason she wasn't arrested and tried for any crime. They were your own words, and I'm still confused by how you can classify any law-abiding leftist American citizen an "enemy of the state" if you they can also "legally be a Cindy Sheehan". Its not logical. Leftists might be your own ideological "enemies" (and even then I think the correct word is "opponents"), but if they haven't broken any laws, they are not "enemies of the state". You demean the force and meaning of the phrase, "enemy of the state". It is an extremely serious phrase that you throw around like valley-girl slang. Also, I think your analogies are bad. If every law-abiding American leftist is an enemy of the state, then the country is currently being oocupied by a hostile force. Let's pretend they were Chinese invaders instead. In such a case of true occupation by real enemies of the state, I would use my ample supply of munitions to kill every Chinese occupier I could. If you really believe in your own rhetoric, it follows that you should be ready and willing to defend your country against any perceived enemies of the state with violent force (instead of tepid rhetoric). The only reason you don't is becasue you don't believe your own rhetoric. Your arguments are weak, contradictory and serve only to provoke or amuse. I hope you bring more value to the world with your real job. Also, you never answered my question about the pledge of alliegiance. And you also never told me if Libertarins are enemies of the state.
- "We are in America. One can certainly legally be a Cindy Sheehan." And if they haven't broken any laws, they are not "enemies of the state". Almost flows logically to you I suppose. This will be today's blog post. As for your other questions about the Pledge of Allegiance and Libertarians I intend to devote a blog post to each. There is no one sentence answer to either, but let me say about anyone who is opposed to the War in Iraq: if they keep off the streets and do not spread lies such as we went there for Oil or Iraq was never a threat to us, etc, then I don't think they are enemies. But if they engage in any troop-demoralizing behaviour then they are enemies. I'm sure there are leftists out there with the decency to keep their mouth shut about Iraq while we are fighting there, just as I'm sure there are Libertarians that do not see the threat that Islam poses against the US. I've read some "Libertarian" bloggers that scored terribly in the Libertarian Purity test: http://www.bcaplan.com/cgi/purity.cgi (I scored 108 by the way). Let me know how you do. Libertarians are no different than most segments of the population; I'm sure there are some seemingly brilliant guys out there that can give a great exposition on the virtues of a free market or the futility of Congressional attempts to pass legislation permitting the Feds to bully states into ignoring Kelo or how to install Linux on your PC. But once Liberarians leave the world of personal and economic freedoms into the outside world of Terror, I believe that some have put blinders on about the threat of Islam. If you do not think that every Muslim, terrorist or not, is a threat to our way of life then obviously the War in Iraq is a mistake. It happens that I do not want our troops stationed in Germany or South Korea. On the other hand I think it is a mistake to permit the Saudis to fund world terror. I believe that one of the reasons we do not really put the hammer down on all these Islamic exporters of Terror is because of the lies spread by Leftists that we are in the Middle East to somehow prop up the price of Oil and because so many so-called Americans have not supported the War on Terror. These defeatists indeed have put the chill into many of our possibilites in the Islamic World. Are there leftists that are decent human beings who understand why we are in Iraq? Probably. Are there Libertarians who have no clue about Islam? Probably. But I do not see Libertarians clogging the streets with Anti-War Slogans and "Bush is Hitler" Posters, so I have not included the whole of the Libertarian World into the enemy camp. I'm sure there are even Libertarians who believe in God. But so what? If I'm not permitted to speak in some generality then I will have to write with so much specificity and so many disclaimers that there will be more confusion than less.
- "If I'm not permitted to speak in some generality then I will have to write with so much specificity and so many disclaimers that there will be more confusion than less." Of course you can speak with generality. Its the hyperbole I think that you need to avoid. There is no sense in calling every leftist in this country an enemy of the state when the vast majority of them might actually be good citizens in the least or your ideological allies at best. They may vote for Kerry, but they also aren't marching on the streets and throwing tomatos at the troops on thier way home. "If you do not think that every Muslim, terrorist or not, is a threat to our way of life then obviously the War in Iraq is a mistake." So I take that you feel every muslim is a threat to "our" way of life then? PS: I scored 148.
- So I take that you feel every muslim is a threat to "our" way of life then? Obviously they are. Their religion prohibits them from accepting our culture and way of life. Look at any place where they have settled. Haven't you read my posts? Banning piggy banks, pork in schools (no child can eat pork), removing displays in Museums offensive to them... and of course everything is offensive to them. PS: I scored 148. I'm impressed yet confused. My lower score was based on being a little more tolerant in the social sphere. You should be the one more concerned about the Islamic threat. Is there any religion more warlike and intolerant of Personal freedoms than Islam? Of course your average seemingly moderate Muslim is not currently blowing himself up in martyrdom even though millions throughout Europe and the US say that they can sympathize with suicide-bombers. In my post http://plancksconstant.org/blog1/2006/04/defending_islam.html I explain why I feel that all Muslims are a threat despite the fact that 99.99999999% do not go around blowing themselves up. You seem like a well read, personable sort of person, how is it that you have somehow missed reading what is happening in India, Australia, Bali, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, the UK, and 5,330 other places around the globe? Are you aware that Islam is at war with us? Tell me you know that at least.
