U. S. Navy Destroyer Stops Four Mexicans In A Rowboat Rowing Towards California
Constant reader S.M. recently sent me the following email making the rounds on the Internet (as you read the piece please be aware that I am not opposed to legal Mexican immigration):

U. S. Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans in a rowboat rowing towards California
The Captain gets on the loud-hailer and shouts, "Ahoy, small craft. Where are you headed?"
One of the Mexican puts down his oar, stands up, and shouts, "We are invading the United States of America to reclaim the territory taken by the USA during the 1800's."
The entire crew of the destroyer doubled-over in laughter.When the Captain is finally able to catch his breath, he gets back on the loud-hailer and asks, "Just the four of you?"
The same Mexican stands up again and shouts, "No, we're the last four. The other 20 million are already there!"

Let me repeat what I have written many times: I am an immigrant myself and certainly not opposed to legal immigration. I believe immigrants made this country many times greater than it could have been and have written articles saying so.
However let me be clear: those who made major contributions to our country were not immigrants who remained immigrants but rather those who integrated into American culture and became Americans (see my article Immigrants did not make this country great).
Those who made major contributions to our country were immigrants who learned to speak English and adopted our way of life. Unfortunately the times they are a-changing - as I wrote in my article Stop Already with Languages Other Than English:
In the past, immigrants came to this country, learned our language, adopted our customs, assimilated into our culture, embraced our way of life, enjoyed our freedoms, and became Americans. This is no longer true. We are now allowing into our country peoples who demand we speak their language, who despise our culture, detest our customs, view of way of life as decadent and immoral, who are disgusted with our freedoms, and who have no intention of ever being Americans at heart.
Before any new visitor arrives at this article thinking I am somehow racist or xenophobic against Hispanics, I am an advocate for allowing unrestricted but documented immigration for all 100 million Mexicans now living in Mexico.
Now comes the big BUT:
But I am opposed to allowing Muslims come into our country because I believe Islam is diametrically opposed to our way of life, our culture, our values, and our Constitution. For more details read my article Suspend Muslim Immigration, Muslim Military service, and Building of Mosques.
